The F-18 E/F Aircraft Avionics Technician will be responsible for Organizational Level (“O” level) support of the aircraft’s Electrical systems. To include:
- Understanding pre / post flight activities and inspections
- Ability to read and interpret wiring schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures, etc.
- Able to setup and use a torque wrench and use common hand tools such as: wrenches, safety wire pliers, etc.
- Able to operate specialty tools such as crimpers, multi-meters, pin extractors.
- Able to remove, replace, and function check aircraft components and assemblies.
- Knowledgeable in wire repair to include: Splicing, Soldering, assembly and Disassembly of multi pin and coaxial type connectors.
- Knowledgeable in testing, troubleshooting and handling of fiber optic conductors.
- Inspect and maintain APG-73 and APG-79 (AESA) Radar, Tactical Warfare (ALE-47 and ALR-67) and F/A-18 weapon systems (including FLIR).
- Inspect and maintain UHF/VHF communication and (APX-111) IFF systems.
- Maintain multipurpose displays to include the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System and video recording.
- Basic understanding in the operation and troubleshooting of a 1553 Data Bus.
- Perform software loading and verification for the F/A-18 mission computer and other software loaded systems.
- The successful candidate will demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of all Aircraft avionics systems aboard the aircraft and will be tasked to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems encountered. You may also be called upon to also provide technical advice, training, and troubleshooting assistance to “O” Level technicians.
- You should be familiar with IETM’s and Wire Illuminator, as well as the NAMP 4790 and applicable NAVAIR technical publications. As required, you may be required to generate written reports for management in support of any contractual obligations.
Basic Qualifications:
- Should have at least 3 years of F/A-18 E/F experience and familiarity with F/A-18 inspections, servicing, troubleshooting, removals, and repairs.
- Must have an interim clearance
- Must have comprehensive written and verbal English communication skills.
- Must have the ability to work flexible schedules to accommodate customer maintenance requirements.
- Must be able to clearly document maintenance and repair actions, equipment status tags, logs, parts requests, etc.
- Must be able to perform assigned duties while wearing required safety equipment.
- Will be required to comply with all rules and regulations concerning health and safety, tool control, FOD control, and all training and certification requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A&P License
- Strong preference to candidates who have supported U.S. Navy F-18 squadrons on deployment.
- Active Secret Clearance Preferred
