Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems have exciting career opportunity for a Computer Systems Operator (CSO)/ Principal Computer Systems Operator (CSO) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located Fort Greely, Alaska

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supports the operation of the Ground-Based Mid-Course Defense (GMD) Fire Control/Communications system.
  • Computer Systems Operators are responsible for the startup, configuration, monitoring, and analysis of GFC/C software.
  • Monitors GMD assets and reports status.
  • Analyzes operational issues and assists with test/exercise events.
  • Participates in scheduled system and site transitions.
  • Effectively interfaces and communicates with military and customers to provide problem resolution.
  • Performs workstation and server log management.
  • Utilizes GFC knowledge and experience to analyze, document, and report anomalies, determine cause, offer solutions, and implement corrective action when required.
  • Understand and execute standard operating procedures to maximize operational availability.
  • Interfaces with customers to provide Level 1 technical support and problem resolution.
  • Adheres to applicable procedures, policies, and directives.
  • Effectively responds to work schedule changes and recall activities as needed to support mission requirements.
  • Must be able to accommodate and support a 24 hour per day/7 day per week/365 day per year work schedule.

Basic Qualifications: This position may be filled at either a Computer Systems Operator (CSO) or a Principal Computer Systems Operator (CSO) level

  • Computer Systems Operator: High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.
  • Principal Computer Systems Operator: High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience.
  • Holds an IAT Certification Level II, Security + certification or higher IAW DoD 8570.
  • Obtains a DoD secret clearance eligible to obtain an DoD Top Secret clearance.
  • Must be able to accommodate and support a 24 hour per day/7 day per week/365 day per year work schedule.
  • Effectively communicate with a variety of military and government customers.
  • Work effectively in small teams.
  • Ability to read, understand, and execute detailed technical documentation such as checklists and operational procedures.
  • Must display a high level of initiative, work well with others, and must be able to take ownership of problems and pro-actively work them to resolution.
  • Travel: Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Some computer related experience (e.g.: Linux, MS Office, databases, software applications and hardware)
  • Preference given to candidates with knowledge of the Linux command line interface and standard toolsets.
  • BS Computer Science


Salary Range: $45,900 USD - $76,500 USD
Salary Range 2: $54,500 USD - $90,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
