Northrop Grumman Tactical Space Systems Division (TSSD) designs, manufactures and operates small and medium-class spacecraft for communications, imaging, scientific exploration, and national security space applications. The Group is also a leading supplier of space components that power and enable satellites of all classes, provides technical engineering services to government agencies and laboratories, and is developing exciting new satellite servicing and advanced space flight technologies.
 

This position will support the ESPAStar spacecraft product line as a Deputy Vehicle Engineer (VE) in Gilbert, AZ. The Deputy VE reports to the VE and helps lead development, integration, and test of an ESPAStar spacecraft. The Deputy VE is a key member of a cross-disciplinary team driving technical execution throughout the entire program lifecycle culminating in the on-orbit delivery of a fully mission capable spacecraft to our customers! Job Responsibilities:

  • Support program technical execution in accordance with Northrop Grumman Systems Engineering processes and best practices

  • Function as the primary technical interface for the spacecraft platform, coordinating with the payload and launch vehicle interface leads to produce an integrated spacecraft meeting contractual and mission requirements

  • Recognize and mitigate platform technical issues and risks

  • Play a key role in major program milestone and readiness reviews

  • Help plan, design, and execute testing strategies to exercise spacecraft functionality, measure performance, and verify survivability in the extreme launch and space environments (Dynamics, TVAC, and EMI/EMC)

  • Directly support the Launch and On-orbit operations campaign for your designated mission at the launch site and Mission Operations Center

  • Author and provide input to major program data products and other deliverables

  • Incorporate lessons learned to continue to strengthen the ESPAStar product line

  • May be asked to support other product line level activities, including architecture studies, mission support, and other traditional Systems Engineering functions

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5+ years of engineering experience OR Master’s Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of engineering experience

  • Experience in systems engineering to include architectural studies, technical baseline definition, requirements & interface management, hardware/software integration, test planning & execution, or operational support

  • Must have U.S. Citizenship with active Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain SCI/SSBI
     

This position can be filled a level higher with a Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, of Mathematics) with 9 years experience OR Master's Degree in STEM discipline and 4 years experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active or current Top Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain SCI/SSBI

  • Experience working on aircraft or spacecraft systems

  • Experience in system architecture, CONOPs, or model-based system engineering (MBSE)

  • Experience with various technical tools such as MATLAB, STK, CORE, DOORS, or CAMEO

  • Experience in any of the following areas is also desired:  orbital mechanics, orbital debris modeling, spacecraft attitude control, power systems and modeling, avionics or digital electronics design, risk analysis, optics, communications, rocket propulsion, thermal engineering, or spacecraft integration and testing

  • Experience with Mission Operations for spacecraft

  • Knowledge of Launch Vehicles, System Safety, System Reliability, Contamination Control, EMI, Space Environments (Radiation, Surface Charging, etc.), and Human Factors is also desired.

  • Experience and/or training in Earned Value Management Systems

Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
