This position offers the opportunity to work on exciting space flight programs.  Successful candidates for this position will work in a lead technical role for the LEOStar-3 Product Line.  Specifically, the Spacecraft Bus Lead for the Thresher program.  The Spacecraft Bus Lead is responsible for leadership and oversight of a multi-discipline team of subsystem leads through the design, development, and completion of the spacecraft bus.   Additional duties include requirements flow down, management, and verification, generating complex specifications, interface control documents, and engineering reports from advanced studies, special engineering investigations, and similar activities.  Tasks may also include harness interface design, Command and Telemetry database development, and space vehicle configuration modeling.  The candidate must be knowledgeable in aerospace systems, spacecraft subsystems design, and mission operations.  Advanced analyses relating to mission and technical problems may be required.  Position will also include responsibilities relating to integration, testing, and operational readiness of spacecraft and payloads.  The role may include interfacing with external customer technical representatives, internal engineering associates and program management and may also involve technical responsibility for subcontracted flight components.  In this senior-level role, the Bus Lead is expected to be self-directed using previous experience to lead Spacecraft design and analysis efforts, Mission Operations and Ground Segment interfaces.  Candidates must be able to recognize and mitigate instrument, spacecraft, ground segment, and mission technical issues while operating within budget and on schedule.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead/Provide major support to all or selected segments for the SE Integrated Team
  • Lead and critique space vehicle design and analysis efforts in general
  • Conceive and develop solutions to complex analytical, design, and test problems that the program may experience
  • Develop and provide input to the Program Systems Engineering Management Plan
  • Spacecraft chief technical interface at all scheduled program meetings and reviews
  • Technical management of the payload interfaces and major bus subcontracted program elements
  • Planning and conduct of all contractual spacecraft technical reviews
  • Ensure the spacecraft design satisfies all requirements and interface specifications
  • Responsible to write monthly status and technical performance reviews and reports
  • EVMS baseline generation, tracking/maintenance and variance analysis
  • Mentor, guide, direct and advise junior staff
  • Oversee and manage the spacecraft design team over the course of the program.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering or related field with 14 years experience in aerospace systems design, development, manufacturing and test, including 5 years of technical or project leadership positions
  • Ability to lead a system engineering team to develop system requirements
  • Ability to evaluate and adjust system requirements in order to best meet program objectives
  • Ability to develop and manage system interfaces to integrate multi-element systems
  • Ability to translate program objectives and customer requirements into system requirements
  • Ability to allocate requirements among multiple elements of an integrated space system
  • Experience with system engineering requirement tools (Cradle, CORE or DOORS, CAMEO) and processes
  • Experience in requirements development and management processes
  • Experience in development and maintenance of interface control documents and related processes
  • Experience in space system testing and evaluation (flight and ground testing)
  • Must have US Citizenship with current or active TS/SCI Clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Orbital mechanics, orbital debris modeling, spacecraft attitude control, power systems and modeling, avionics or digital electronics design, risk analysis, optics, communications, rocket propulsion, thermal engineering, or spacecraft integration and testing
  • Experience with Mission Operations for spacecraft
  • Knowledge of Launch Vehicles, System Safety, System Reliability, Contamination Control, EMI, Space Environments (Radiation, Surface Charging, etc.), and Human Factors is also desired.
  • Experience and/or training in Earned Value Management Systems
  • Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (Cameo)

Salary Range: $149,700 USD - $224,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
