Working with flight projects, NASA test engineers and Facility Engineering to plan, develop and execute MIL-STD-461 or NASA specific electromagnetic compatibility tests using the environmental test facilities in the Building 7/10/15/29 complex on spaceflight hardware.  Will lead a team of technicians and/or junior engineers in accomplishing assigned tests.  May create complex analysis of collected data, provides test documentation in a test folio and completes test reports.
  • Develops test procedures, when required, cost and schedule estimates, oversees set-up and test execution.  Reviews Work Directive expenditures to ensure estimates are not exceeded without reasonable justification.  Updates Work Directive scope and cost as necessary. Completes all test preparations and facility readiness tasks to meet project technical and schedule (as negotiated) requirements and Branch Quality System requirements.
  • Resolves technical and programmatic issues with minimal outside intervention. Conducts all tests within test specifications and NASA requirements. Ensures all test data is acquired and all data analysis is performed in accordance with test procedures. Provides recommendations to management regarding process and facility improvements and upgrades.
  • Ensures that work practices comply with applicable safety and occupational health standards, rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Is aware of and complies with applicable safety requirements for work, including but not limited to, the Mechanical Systems Safety Manual as posted to the GDMS. Asks knowledgeable persons (lead engineer, supervisor, lab manager, building FOM, etc.) if safety requirements are not understood. Ensures hardware and personnel safety concerns are promptly and effectively addressed.
  • Maintains accountability for data acquisition systems and computing resources.
  • May also perform temporary duties in other areas or other duties associated with area of assignment.
Work Environment
  • Work indoors and out in high and low temperatures and in all types of weather conditions.
  • Work in clean rooms.
  • Must be capable of working from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, cranes, suspended platforms or cages, etc.
  • Must be capable of working while bending, standing, stooping, kneeling or in a prove position for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to use the proper PPE as required by work activities.
  • Must be able to accommodate shift changing, weekend and holiday support on short notice and extended hours as required.
  • Must be capable of passing required physical examinations and successfully completing the following training: Electro-static discharge, hazard communication, confined space, Electrical Safety, Cryogenic safety, clean room, personal protective equipment, IT security and other required training or certifications as directed by ETIS management.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years related, or 2 years direct experience required to the area of assignment with demonstrated communication skills. Must be computer-literate. Familiarity with hand tools & electrical & mechanical principles is required.
  • B.S Degree in electrical engineering required.
  • Familiarity with LabView for automating EMI testing.
