We provide the management and all required technical staff (IT, Engineers, Technicians, Maintenance, Quality, Safety) to support NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) integration and test activities. Our dynamic and dedicated staff are located at GSFC as part of Peraton’s Environmental Test and Integration Services (ETIS) contract. As a member of our team, you have the unique opportunity to be engaged in multiple exciting space programs that require our support to be assembled, integrated, and tested in the GSFC state-of-the-art integration and environmental test facilities. Many of the NASA spacecraft and instruments are applying cutting edge technologies to achieve the science goals. As a member of ETIS, you will be part of a team that makes sure these spaceflight programs are ready for launch and operations: you will be helping to demonstrate that the hardware will survive the space environment.  A very important job! Our team provides primary support in Greenbelt, MD, but we also travel to remote locations where GSFC needs us to support integration and test of the NASA instruments, spacecraft and observatories.  We even support the launch operations at the launch sites. As a new ETIS employee, you will be part of a dedicated, highly skilled group who focus on doing excellent work with a main focus on safety for you and the space hardware.  Peraton’s ETIS program is seeking a Thermal Vacuum Technician Level II to join our team in Greenbelt, MD.   Job Description Primary duties are to operate all Thermal Vacuum (T/V) facilities and associated equipment in GSFC Lab performing thermal transitions per procedure on space flight hardware under the direction of a senior technician. Additional duties include but are not limited to, installing thermocouples on payload hardware, connecting GSE and leak checking for T/V testing, recording data in the test log as requested, performing pre-pumps, support flight projects in T/V facilities or other duties associated with are assignment. Responsible for supporting set-up activities which includes but not limited to: pre-start check lists, cold finger samples and general housekeeping, performing safety inspections. May also be requested to train entry level technicians as directed and support fabrication of test fixtures. Must also operate the environmental test data acquisition system and SCADA PLC, TQCM program, RGA, thermal condition units and other test equipment. Work Environment
  • Work indoors and out in high and low temperatures and in all types of weather conditions.
  • Work in dusty, noisy, hot, high humidity, dirty, and greasy environment.
  • Work in areas where there may be materials that are irritating to eyes, nose, throat, and skin while wearing appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Work with other personnel in a group that is Team Oriented.
  • Work in clean rooms.
  • Must be capable of working from ladders, scaffolding, catwalks, cranes, suspended platforms or cages, etc.
  • Must be capable of working while bending, standing, stooping, kneeling or in a prove position for extended periods of time.
  • Must be capable of working in small and large confined spaces.
  • Must be capable of sitting for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to use the proper PPE as required by work activities.
  • Must have the ability to distinguish color for 8 color display while monitoring testing data.
  • The position requires the employee to accommodate shift changing, weekend and holiday support on short notice and extended hours as required.

Basic Qualifications:
  • High School diploma and a minimum of 2 years related experience required to the area of assignment with demonstrated communication skills. Must be computer-literate. Familiarity with hand tools & electrical & mechanical principles is required.
  • Candidate must be capable of passing required physical examinations and successfully completing the following training: Electro-static discharge, hazard communication, confined space, Electrical Safety, Cryogenic safety, clean room, personal protective equipment, IT security and other required training or certifications as directed by management.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Reading and interpreting mechanical and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with operating, maintaining and troubleshooting thermal, vacuum, and cryogenic (Liquid and Gas) equipment.
  • Fabricate, leak check, and repair mechanical cryogenic connections involved with test setups.
  • Ability to fabricate, repair and check medium to high pressure plumbing systems.
  • Understanding of basic hand tools and operations of basic machine shop equipment.
  • Proficiency using computer interface to operate mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge/Experience with electrical and electronic competences.
  • Install instrumentation including TC’s, RTD’s, LVDT’s and strain gauges.
  • Ability to solve complex problems.
  • Intermediate level skills of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Experience working with flight hardware.
  • Ability to follow and comply to verbal and written instruction.
