At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon. We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

The Northrop Grumman Space Mission Operations Development group is responsible for ensuring successful spacecraft operations and related integration with our customers. This begins at the program level: creating and refining requirements with our customers as well as supporting Concept of Operations development. It continues through a series of programmatic design reviews that mature the system, including integration with our spacecraft and ground element teams to capture operational inputs. After Critical Design Review (CDR) we turn to developing operational products and team training.  This cumulates with in-space operations.

Spaceflight operations, including Northrop Grumman’s Human Exploration Office programs, are an exciting and dynamic environment, providing the opportunity to work across a multi-organizational team for a common goal.  The successful candidate:

  • Works with a Mission Operations Lead to develop Concept of Operations and related Operational and Ground System Requirements
  • Works with a Mission Operations Lead to develop, review, and validate mission operations procedures, scripts, and telemetry pages in support of commercial and civil programs.
  • Works with a Mission Operations Lead to develop and review mission operations documentation to be used internally as well as delivered to the customer.
  • Works with a Mission Operations Lead to develop and review training material to be used both internally as well as delivered to the customer.
  • May support spacecraft testing, including hardware/software, control center, or human-in-the-loop testing.
  • Coordinates with systems and subsystems engineers to obtain technical inputs for operations documentation & procedures
  • Provides input to systems engineering teams for operational impacts to software/hardware development or modifications; and roll such engineering changes into operational products (e.g., flight rules, procedures, etc.).
  • Supports simulations, rehearsals, and other development and test activities.
  • Supports flight operations during Launch & Early Orbit through End of Mission.  This often includes shift work at all hours. Quiescent operations support may have reduced requirements.
  • Has good communication skills for interacting across multiple control centers and teams during real-time operations.
  • Has good writing skills for ops product development and post-flight reporting.
