Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Sector is seeking a System Integration Engineer (HSI) to be responsible for HSI and Human Factors Engineer (HFE) activities.  This HSI engineer will serve as a key member of the Crew System group and HSI team for the Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO) Program and other Human Exploration Programs. 

The HSI engineer will lead / contribute to all HSI efforts on HALO including but not limited to:

  • Requirements engineering, technical planning, system engineering and integration, verification and validation, cost and risk assessments, and supportability/effectiveness analyses for total systems.
  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include; concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Directly contribute to Tasks and Error Analysis, Human-in-the-loop (HITL) test planning/execution/reporting, worksite analysis, anthropometric analysis, crew operating loads analysis, and requirements allocation/interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. 
  • Support all HALO HSI and HFE related deliverables, HITL participation, and sub-contractor interaction to ensure successful crew interface design that reduces human error.
  • Regular interaction with customer counterparts, HFE, system users, and different sub-system engineering disciplines to ensure user needs are represented in product design while meeting necessary requirements.

*This position may be hired at a higher level depending on candidate experience and qualifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline
  • 9+ years of Human Systems Integration experience
  • 5+ years System Engineering Integration (SEI) experience
  • Previous experience in Human Space Flight hardware and operations.
  • Proficiency delivering technical solutions/contributions to the completion of project milestones under minimal supervision, and with presenting findings to customers and contractors at major milestone meetings
  • U.S. citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant experience with human factors engineering analysis and testing including Human-Centered Task and Error Analyses, worksite analysis, anthropometric analysis, crew operating loads analysis, and Human-in-the-Loop testing
  • Significant experience with Systems Engineering processes, engineering lifecycle, technical readiness levels, and technical evaluation with objective and subjective supportive data
  • Experience with the interpretation and application of complex systems integration, systems safety, crew survivability, and habitability requirements to system design
  • Understand systems and design thinking as well as Human Machine Interface/Human Computer Interface design principles and practices
  • Experience with evaluation of anthropometric, human loading, user workload, and informational design
  • Experience conducting structured human behavioral evaluations including human error analysis and physical layout analyses and design
  • Familiarity with Human System standards and specifications (MIL-STD 1472, NASA-STD 3001/3001)

Salary Range: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
