Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff GMD Fire Control (GFC) Execution Lead to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals located in both Huntsville, AL and Chandler, AZ.

Position Overview:

The Staff GFC Execution Lead will become part of Northrop Grumman’s Ground Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Development and Sustainment Contract (DSC) in support of the Missile Defense Agency. The GMD element, composed of the Ground Systems (GS) and Ground Based Interceptor (GBI) components, is a critical part of our nation’s layered Ballistic Missile Defense System providing the U.S. with the capability to engage and intercept long-range ballistic missiles during midcourse flight. 

The GFC product brings in threat information from GMD resources and creates fire control solutions for engagement. GFC is the creator of task plans for the resources to support each engagement. Lastly, GFC provides the warfighter with an interface to fight the battle.

This versatile engineer will assist the GFC Product Manager on leading a team of over 70 employees on the development, test, systems engineer and integration for the GFC product. This position requires direct interface with the Customer, Program Manager, Business Management, Contracts, Engineering, Manufacturing and Manufacturing Support teams in support of program reviews, objectives, and schedule.

Essential Functions:  

  • Strong Systems Engineer background

  • Lead team of 70+ Software, Integration, Test, and Systems Engineers.
  • Act as interface with the other GS Products.
  • Assist Product Manager with proposals and other contract modifications.
  • Ensure engineering standards are met.
  • The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 14 years of experience, or a Master's Degree and 12 years of experience, or 9 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Five years of functional and/or technical leadership experience
  • Current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance is required to start
  • Proven experience applying Earned Value Management
  • Experience with customer and stakeholder relationship management
  • Proven experience with presentation/briefing development
  • Demonstrated skills in the organization and execution of tasks and projects
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills of technical, organizational, or personnel issues
  • Experience supporting DoD proposal review activities
  • BOE development
  • Working in an Agile framework
  • Background in Earned Value Management System (EVMS) to support Cost Account Manager (CAM) with activities as needed
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% as needed to support business needs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership experience managing large technical teams (70+ leads and engineers)
  • Understanding and/or experience with the Missile Defense Agency and their programs
  • Experience and understanding of Engineering Processes and Procedures
  • Project Management and/or Integrated Product Team Leadership experience

Salary Range: 141400 - 212200

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
