Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector is offering a challenging and rewarding career as a Growth Manger/Architect for Northrop Grumman’s Missile Defense Solutions Business Unit.

This position reports to the Director of Strategy, Business Development and Capture, Missile Defense Systems. They will provide a link between the business development team and technical team(s) in developing advanced technologies for growth and maturation across the Missile Defense 'kill web' from left of launch through post-intercept assessment including early identification of technologies for space-based architectures, sensors, communication, Command & Control, Kinetic & non-kinetic effectors, and modeling and simulation in support of advanced concepts for Missile Defense architectures. Additionally, the position will support the development of technical strategies and artifacts for responses to customer solicitations (BAAs, RFIs, RFPs) in support of the Missile Defense Business Solutions Business Unit. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with strong technical acumen and a working knowledge of missile defense systems for homeland defense and regional defense. 

The Missile Defense Growth Manager/Architect will be responsible for:

  • Supporting Business Development (BD) by applying technical expertise to market strategy development and customer engagement
  • Providing technical leadership and support to the BD organization by analyzing designs for technical product enhancements, integrating the work of research and development, manufacturing, marketing, sales, and service functions for missile defense roadmap.
  • Providing technical consultation to the BD team and customers during the early life cycle of new products.
  • Providing product consultation to research and development in the design stage of products.
  • Planning, preparing, and presenting product introduction strategies.
  • Developing long-range objectives and strategic plans for Missile Defense by identifying internal and external strategic issues that could affect growth and profitability.
  • Scanning environment for new business opportunities and developing growth targets.
  • Supporting development of RFIs and proposals
  • Recommending strategic objectives and alternatives, and implementing and maintaining strategic and operational plans.
  • Conducting technical coordination across the Launch and Missile Defense Solutions (LMDS) Division and Space Systems Sector as needed.
  • Providing technical recommendations for Internal Research and Development (IRAD) activities and work with the CTO office and relevant existing programs to ensure alignment of business development and CTO office.
  • Supporting conceptual design teams and trade study analyses
  • Translating requirements created by functional analysts into the architecture for that solution and describing it through architecture and design artifacts.
  • Identifying key missile defense related technologies and support the development of internal technology roadmaps
  • Remaining abreast of industry trends in missile defense and enabling technologies
  • Remaining abreast of adversary missile threat capacities
  • Developing and presenting briefings within the enterprise team and to senior technical managers within the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and supporting stakeholders

Basic Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in the following topics:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 9+ years professional experience managing complex projects, initiatives, or teams or a Master's degree and 7+ years experience
  • Demonstrated depth in technical and/or business acumen
  • Familiar with systems and components of the ballistic missile defense or air defense systems
  • Understanding of properties of missile threats and requirements on interceptors and sensors to defeat them
  • Experience developing briefings and interfacing with and briefing executive leadership teams
  • Experience establishing clear objectives and roadmaps to achieve objectives
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills including briefing executive level management and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated successful leadership of multi-function teams that led to successful mission execution
  • Active Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Well known with established relationships in the defense community including the missile defense community.
  • An applicable advanced technical or business degree (MS/PhD; Majors: Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics General, and Aero & Astro Eng (System Engineering Content desired), MBA)
  • Knowledge of aerodynamic effects on missile bodies, multi-band sensors, control systems, and vehicle design implications
  • Knowledge/expertise on both sides of the Systems Engineering V to develop effective system-of-system level requirements
  • Demonstrated experience working on a large capture
  • Demonstrated experience developing strategy
  • Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional roles in a matrix organization
  • Ability to successfully engage across all levels in the organization
  • Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance

Salary Range: $119,800 USD - $179,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
