Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Staff Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:  

The selected Staff Systems Engineer responsibilities include the development and support of the In-Flight Interceptor Communication Systems (IFICS) Data Terminal (IDT) and Phased Array IDT suite of products within the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA). You will be responsible for developing and implementing software updates that best meet changing customer needs for new and existing features of the LSS system, collaborating with team members, and working in a cross functional agile scrum team.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems
  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
  • Work in a fast paced, Agile environment with the ability to work on cross-functional Scrum team focused on quality and capability delivery
  • Collaborate with stakeholders
  • Develop the test objectives, organization test policies, test strategies and test plans

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 14 years of related experience, or a master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related experience, or 9 years of experience with a PhD.
  • System analysis and/or integration experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and Systems Thinking mindset
  • Excellent decision making and communication (written and verbal) skills
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work in a collaborative, Agile integrated product team (IPT) environment
  • Experience in IBM Rational DOORS system software
  • Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) experience
  • Experience in Jira software, including use of Atlassian products
  • Recent experience in requirements allocation & derivation and verification traceability
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
  • Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the DoD secret level; and a minimum of an interim secret clearance will be required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MDA Experience
  • Missile Defense Experience
  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree with emphasis on Communication Systems or equivalent knowledge
  • Experience with emerging technologies
  • High proficiency with tools required for communication system and network modeling and simulation
  • Development of communication waveform processing techniques and architectures in support of Northrop Grumman’s advanced software defined multifunction mission systems
  • Demonstrated skills in bridging the gap between theoretical and practical and in performing associated trade off analysis
  • Experience in Linux environment
  • Experience in requirements test automation & verification traceability
  • MBSE experience using Cameo
  • Automated testing experience
  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance.

Salary Range: $141,800 USD - $212,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
