Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a User Experience Engineer to support Human Factors engineering efforts for development of SW User Interfaces as part of the Specialty Engineering Human Systems Integration (HSI) team. This position will be located in Huntsville AL or Roy, UT and will support the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

What you’ll get to do: 

The selected candidate will be a member of the Human Factors (HF) specialization for software user interfaces (UI) design efforts for the HSI team. They will interact/communicate with the element and product level teams in the technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and supportability/effectiveness analyses for total systems.  Human Factors analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, and test. The HFE ensures requirements allocation and interface definition studies translate to customer requirements for hardware and software HSI specification and could require functional analysis, timeline analysis, and detail trade studies.

This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You’ll bring these qualifications:

  • Educational background in phychology, human factors, user experience, graphic design, industrial design, or HCI-related field from an accredited university, and at least 5 years of related experience; OR at least 3 Years of relevant experience with a Masters degree; OR at least 2 Years of relevant experience with a PhD degree
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing UI/UX design principles
  • Ability to build software prototypes for usability testing of candidate designs
  • Active Secret clearance with an investigation date in the last 6 years; Must have the ability to obtain special program access
  • Experience in fast-paced work environment and ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present to segment, program and customer community
  • Ability to solve problems, analyze test results, drive tasks to completion

These qualifications would be nice to have:

• Experience with visual design of computer user interfaces

• Degree in Psychology or similar social sciences

• Experience with Human Factors in a defense contracting environment (familiarity with Mil-Std-1472G and ANSI/HFES 100-2007), DoD UI/UX Design Experience

• Familiarity with Human Factors modeling in NX/Jack, IMPRINT

• Experience with Axure wireframing/prototyping software

• Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

• Experience on an Agile Software Development Team

Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
