Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal Electrical Engineer to join the Systems Engineering Team. This position can be filled in Huntsville, AL or in Roy, UT and supports the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. Final grade level will be based on selected candidate’s experience.

What You’ll Get To Do:

The selected candidate will support the Specialty Engineering group performing design and design analysis for EMI/EMC compliance. The candidate for this technical position will perform system level decomposition of EMI/EMC requirements, will develop EMI/EMC design requirements at sub-system level, will perform design analysis to verify compliance, and support hardware design engineering to ensure compliance with EMI/EMC requirements. The selected candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of the Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility (EMI/EMC) test plans and test procedures to meet the Data Item Description as well as contribute to the development of Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Integration and Analysis Report (E3IAR), and E3 Verification Procedures and Reports. This position will provide support to the EMI Design review process with modeling, simulation, and analysis. It requires experience in the technical oversight and reporting of Defense or Civilian Aerospace E3 programs. Technical areas include Space and Launch Vehicles and associated Ground Control Systems. Travel may be required in order to witness EMI/EMC testing.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off. Relocation assistance may be available.

Basic Qualifications: 

• Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 5 years of experience; 3 years with Master’s Degree; 0 years with PhD

• Senior Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) discipline and 9 years of experience; 7 years with Master’s Degree; 4 years with PhD

• Experience with design for EMI/EMC compliance and system level integration (bonding, grounding, shielding, filtering, transient suppression)

• Experience with equipment, sub-system and system level EMI/EMC test (Expertise in MIL-STD 461, automotive or commercial EMI/EMC testing)

• Excellent communication skills – verbal, written, and presentation

• Experience working cooperatively with professionals representing multiple engineering disciplines

• Experience presenting engineering findings orally and participating in design reviews

• Active DoD Secret clearance with an investigation date within the last 6 years

Preferred Qualifications:  

• Experience with GBSD and/or MMIII systems

• Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics or Systems Engineering

• Expert in systems engineering principles and processes

• Experience with managing/scheduling facilities and equipment

• Prior experience leading 5+ person teams, to include subcontractors and consultants

• Active DoD Top Secret clearance

Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
