Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer - GMD to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is located at Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

The Principal /Sr. Principal Systems Engineer will support the Ground-Based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program. You will be responsible for establishing, balancing, and integrating stakeholders’ goals, purpose, and success criteria, and defining customer needs, operational concept and required functionality. You will work in multi-disciplined team in a highly collaborate environment.

Essential Functions:  

• Perform model-based systems engineering (MBSE) functional and behavior analysis for the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Ground-based Midcourse Defense weapon system.
• Participate in a MBSE environment to develop system-of-systems requirements and models using functional analysis, timeline analysis, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications in Cameo.
• Defining, documenting, and analyzing proposed missile system configurations, specifying test and operational systems component viability.
• Ensuring the logical and systematic impacts of changes against the total system solution.
• Working as part of the integrated systems engineering team.
• Well versed in agile software development and performing collaboration between self-organizing cross-functional scrum teams.
• Management of requirements using IBM Rational Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS).

Basic Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a Systems Engineer or a Principal Systems Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer are:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or 0 years of related experience with a PhD.
• Experience creating and documenting product requirements, analyzing results and creating reports.
• Communicate with stakeholders to identify what the product should accomplish.
• Experience working in an agile work environment.
• Natural collaborators interacting with various team disciplines such as test and software engineers.
• A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance is required to start.

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer are:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of related experience, or 5 years of experience with a PhD.
• Experience creating and documenting product requirements, analyzing results and creating reports.
• Communicate with stakeholders to identify what the product should accomplish.
• Experience working in an agile work environment.
• Natural collaborators interacting with various team disciplines such as test and software engineers.
• A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance is required to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in System Engineering or related field.
• Strong DOORS experience.
• Familiarity with Agile processes and the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
• Familiarity with Test Driven Development (TDD) concepts and relative artifacts
• GMD or other missile defense experience.
  Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and customer personnel.
• Familiarity with Agile software development practices.
• Strong understanding of Automated test practices as they relate to MBSE.
• Previous experience working with a Missile Defense Agency (MDA) customer.
• Experience in systems engineering, requirements, and product development processes and application to complex weapon or space systems.
• Experience in complex weapon or space systems requirements/verification development and maintenance.

Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

Salary Range 2: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
