Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal / Sr. Principal Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:   

The Principal/Sr. Principal Systems Engineer will support the Air and Missile Defense Planning and Control System Tactical Support (ATS) program. You will be responsible for establishing, balancing, and integrating stakeholders’ goals, purpose, and success criteria, and defining customer needs, operational concept and required functionality. You will work in multi-disciplined team in a highly collaborate environment.

Essential Functions:  

  • Developing, documenting, verifying, and validating systems and subsystem requirements to develop, upgrade and sustain the system
  • Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
  • Performing system analysis, requirements analysis, and functional analysis and allocation, and interface definition related to the system design.
  • Defining, documenting, and analyzing proposed system configurations, specifying test and operational systems component viability.
  • Ensuring the logical and systematic impacts of changes against the total system solution.
  • Working as part of the integrated systems engineering team.

Basic Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Systems Engineer or Sr Principal Systems Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Systems Engineer are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience, or 0 years of related experience with a PhD.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain an DoD Secret clearance

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline preferred from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of related experience, or 5 years of experience with a PhD.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain an DoD Secret clearance

Additional Qualifications for both Principal Systems Engineer and Sr Principal Systems Engineer

  • Strong experience with requirement decomposition from upper-level requirements, ICDs, IDD, and other higher-level documents.
  • Strong experience with interface requirements
  • Systems engineering, requirements, and product development processes and application to complex weapon or space systems experience
  • Complex ground systems requirements/verification development and maintenance experience.
  • Previous experience working with a Missiles and Space customer
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and customer personnel.

Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
