Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer / Sr. Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

  

The selected Principal / Sr. Principal Software Engineer responsibilities include the development and support of the Launch Support Systems (LSS) suite of products within the Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program. You will be responsible for developing and implementing software updates that best meet changing customer needs for new and existing features of the LSS system, collaborating with team members, and working in a cross functional agile scrum team.

Essential Functions:  

  • Design, develop, and implement testing methods, monitoring and test execution activities for program software.
  • Work in a fast paced, Agile environment with the ability to work on cross-functional Scrum team focused on quality and capability delivery.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders interacting with various team disciplines such as test and software engineers.
  • Develop the test objectives, organization test policies, test strategies and test plans.
  • Estimate testing to be done and acquire necessary resources.
  • Schedule the test for execution and then will monitor, measure, control and report on the test progress, the product quality status and the test results, adapting the test plan and compensating as needed to adjust to evolving conditions.

This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications:

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Software Engineer or a Sr. Principal Software Engineer level.

BQs for a Principal Software Engineer are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related experience.
  • Experience with Linux Red Hat 7 operating system.
  • Experience working in an agile work environment.
  • Security+ or other equivalent IAT Level I certification.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
  • Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the DoD secret level; and a minimum of an interim secret clearance will be required to start.

BQs for a Sr. Principal Software Engineer are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of related experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.
  • Experience with Linux Red Hat 7 operating system.
  • Experience working in an agile work environment.
  • Security+ or other equivalent IAT Level I certification.
  • Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.
  • Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the DoD secret level; and a minimum of an interim secret clearance will be required to start.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience performing integration of software components and hardware items
  • GMD or other missile defense experience
  • Previous experience performing performance or log analysis
  • Previous experience performing fault tree analysis
  • Previous experience working with a Missile Defense Agency (MDA) customer
  • Previous experience working with Atlassian DevOps tool suite
  • Previous experience working with MatLab, Unix scripting, or Ansible
  • Automated testing experience
  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Top Secret security clearance.

Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
