Northrop Grumman Space Systems Sector is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer to join our team in Huntsville, AL. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman’s National Team Systems Engineering and Integration team. The team supports development and verification of the national missile defense system, working closely with our customer the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will get the opportunity to use their experience for the entire Systems Engineering “V”, including one or more of the following:

  • System architecture, Functions, and Requirements
  • Employing technologies to develop and integrate individual elements into a system of systems
  • Verification of design to the warfighter requirements.
  • Model Based System Engineering in a Digital Environment (CAMEO/DOORS/MATLAB, et al)
  • Model and Simulation concepts and tools with regards to aspects of the Ballistic missile defense system (e.g., Aegis Weapons Systems, Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), Fire Control
  • C2BMC, BMDS sensors (EO/IR/RF), kill vehicles, interceptors, countermeasures, etc.)
  • Daily work with program leaders, Chief Engineers, technical leaders, and with individual contributors at all career levels.
  • The candidate is expected to work alongside subject matter experts in several fields and support the creation of architectures and new system designs for the development of advanced systems.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 14 years of related experience, or a master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 12 years of related experience, or 9 years of related experience with a PhD.
  • Individual must have an active current Secret security clearance
  • The candidate must be accomplished in communicating with senior program and government leadership.
  • Able to demonstrate ability to think critically and capture concepts in papers, presentations, and discussions.
  • Capable of working both independently and within a small team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated Subject Matter Expertise in multiple skills and capabilities listed position overview
  • Experience working with, and for, the MDA, or related programs
  • Advanced degree(s) in related fields
  • Current Top Secret Clearance


Salary Range: $141,800 USD - $212,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
