Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector is seeking a Staff Engineer Systems to join our team in Huntsville, AL. The qualified applicant will become part of Northrop Grumman’s IBCS Systems Engineering and Integration team. The team supports Requirements development and verification of the IBCS system.

The Staff Engineer Systems will provide support for architecture development through model-based systems engineering principles, requirements development, requirements management, as well as interface development and management.  Candidate should possess the ability to organize and define system level requirements, decompose and allocate requirements to subsystems (performing or coordinating analyses as required), manage the requirements baseline in a relational database (such as DOORS), write clear requirement specifications, and perform detailed bi-directional traceability. The individual shall also identify all external and internal interfaces, define all parameters that characterize those interfaces (performing or coordinating analyses as required), develop interface control documents & deliverables, and participate in system architecture & design development to resolve interface issues and ensure interface compliance.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems.
  • Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
  • Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.
  • Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

Basic Qualifications:

To be considered for this position, the candidate must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below.

  • DOD security clearance
  • 3+ years using model-based approaches and tools with experience in SYSML, DoDAF, and/or Cameo. 
  • Systems Engineer 5: requires 12 years experience with Bachelor of Science; 10 Years with Masters; 7 Years with PhD. Degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or physics.
  • Experience in architecture & requirements development for network-centric, software intensive DoD systems. 
  • Understanding of DoDAF, SYSML, UML and Object Oriented Design implementations. 
  • Generating system/element level functional, performance, and interface specifications to document and control the achievement of the desired capabilities.
  • Management of system and component baselines in a requirements management system

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Missile Defense experience
  • Experience with DOORS
  • Experience with architecture modeling tools (e.g., Rational System Architect, Rational Software Architect, MagicDraw, Cameo Enterprise Architecture)
  • Demonstrated ability to develop DoDAF-compliant UML-based Use  Cases, Use Case Narratives, and sequence diagrams that represent system and software behaviors necessary to achieve system capabilities.
  • Experience in development of U.S. Army Air and Missile Defense systems (e.g., IBCS, PATRIOT, MEADS)
  • Detailed understanding of Track Management processes and behaviors
  • Detailed understanding of Tactical Data Links (e.g., Link-16)
  • Detailed understanding of Command and Control (C2) functioning
  • Detailed understanding of defense planning and task force laydowns

Salary Range: $141,800 USD - $212,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
