Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Principal / Senior Principal Systems Engineer. This position will be located in Huntsville, AL and will support Advance programs. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

What you’ll get to do: 

The Advanced Programs Sr. Principal/Principal Engineer Guidance, Navigation and Control will support Advanced Programs projects in a variety of guidance, navigation, control systems, and systems engineering projects.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Subsystem design for guidance and navigation
  • Generate requirements from a defined CONOPS at the system-level down to the subsystem-level
  • Produce architecture models in Cameo
  • Verify systems against requirements
  • Assist team members in system and subsystem-level testing
  • Work within a team to mature technological capabilities and develop prototype designs

 This position’s standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.  

You’ll Bring These Qualifications:

  • Principal Engineer:  Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline from an ABET accredited university; 5 years of experience performing in a Systems Engineering or related technical discipline; 3 years with a Master’s degree
  • Senior Principal Engineer: Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline from an ABET accredited university; 9 years of experience performing in a Systems Engineering or related technical discipline; or 7 years of experience with a Masters
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance
  • Ability to effectively communicate and present complex technical concepts to project, program, and company management, other technical managers, and customers.
  • Excellent team building skills and ability to complete tasking with minimal direction.
  • Experience in performance of trade studies to identify components that meet system and subsystem requirements.
  • Demonstrated systems engineering experience, including system architecture definition using UPDM and/or SysML.
  • Experience with Cameo, Python, and other modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) tools.
  • Demonstrated experience in control systems or vehicle management systems/guidance system design.

These Qualifications Would be Nice to Have:

Current active DoD Secret Clearance

Experience in one or more of the following:

• Design, development, and/or integration of air or space vehicle systems and subsystems

• Integrated hardware/software verification & validation experience

• Integration of actuation system into overall vehicle system

• Guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) experience

Understanding of architecture design, specification development, requirements definition, and functional modeling.

Tool experience with MATLAB/Simulink


Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $138,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
