Northrop Grumman Defense Systems in Huntsville, AL is currently seeking a Chief Engineer to lead the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS) Program.  IBCS integrates various radars and weapons to construct and deliver a single integrated air picture with high accuracy and broad surveillance and protection areas.

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the technical direction and execution of all aspects of engineering on a program including design, development, implementation, integration, testing, and delivery of product to the customer. The Chief Engineer is the technical leader for the program engineering team, and also serves as technical advisor to the program director. You will lead a multi-disciplined engineering team and coordinate with functional organizations to ensure that all engineering teams adhere to sound engineering processes, in accordance with company policies, procedures, and quality standards.  You will be asked to solve complex technical problems and provide solutions that are innovative and achievable.  You will provide technical status/updates and assessment to program director and support cost and schedule impact assessments of technical direction and customer requests. 

This position will be hired as Consulting Chief Engineer (Level 7) and reports to the Operating Unit Engineering Manager.  The position is located in Huntsville AL.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree, or related technical discipline, and 20 years of applicable experience. 18 years of relevant experience with a Masters degree; 15 years with a PhD.
  • Current active Secret clearance
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in systems and product development
  • Minimum 10 years of experience leading large technical teams
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills, decisiveness, and ability to make sound technical judgements with limited information
  • Demonstrated ability to perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
  • Experience with proactively identify issues and solutions to those issues, and drive issues rapidly to closure.
  • Experience with Agile development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) mission and systems
  • Sensor and Effector Domain knowledge as it relates to Battle Management Systems
  • Familiarity with Operational Analysis and CONOPS development
  • Strong interpersonal communication and technical writing skills to enable effective personal interaction and collaboration with a multi-disciplined team and customers

Salary Range: $174,000 USD - $262,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
