Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Software Quality Manager 2 to join its team of diverse professionals in support of the Sentinel (GBSD) program. This leadership role is located in Huntsville, AL and will support the Sentinel program. Learn more about the Sentinel (GBSD) program here. Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

What you will get to do:

  • Provide the leadership necessary to ensure a keen focus on 1st time quality and quality early in the engineering lifecycle and must exemplify Northrop Grumman’s Leadership Characteristics Lead and manage a high performing technical team of Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineers, in support of SDS programs.
  • Team and collaborate closely with stakeholders, including Mission Assurance Director, MA team members, Program Managers, Systems Engineering, Software Development, and Test IPT Leads, and others to better enable program and mission success.
  • Hire and retain top talent to meet program SQA staffing requirements and affordability challenges while managing to direct and indirect budgets.
  • Conduct employee performance management and development reviews, provide technical oversight, and encourage employee engagement.
  • Ensure the development and implementation of robust SQA Plans and Schedules.
  • Facilitate outstanding and timely execution of SQA activities; requirements traceability, product reviews, peer reviews, process excellence, test excellence, non-conformance control, metrics and reporting.
  • Provide senior technical oversight for issue/problem resolution activities, root cause analysis and preventive/corrective action implementation.
  • Lead and participate in the continuous improvement of SQA command media, procedures, work instructions, tools, metrics, and training materials.
  • Refine best practices and expand program cross sharing to elevate program performance and growth.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM plus 6 years of experience in Software, Software Quality, Mission Assurance and or Quality OR a Masters’ Degree in STEM plus 4 years of experience in Software, Software Quality, Mission Assurance and/or Quality.
  • 1 year experience leading a project and/or driving performance against schedule.
  • 1 years of Rational DOORS
  • Active Top Secret Clearance
  • US Citizen


  • Experience and expertise with the following are highly regarded
  • Software Development Methodology (Agile preferred)
  • CMMI Appraisals and Process Area Audits,
  • Jira / Confluence
  • Cameo, Jazz
  • Software Change Management, Quality, Safety and Mission Assurance.
  • Provide site leadership for MA organization in Huntsville
  • Software Development Methodology (Agile preferred)
  • Agile Software Development Methodology
  • 4 years of leadership / supervisory or management experience

Salary Range: $118,600 USD - $178,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
