Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Engineer Systems – Systems Safety Engineer (24-336) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Colorado Springs, CO.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for development, configuration control, deployment, and testing of Radiant Mercury Configuration (including Rules).
- Network Management and Monitoring Systems.
- Understanding of standard DOD security practices such as STIG compliance and system accreditation implementation efforts.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment with other highly motivated integration engineers and independently on large field projects.
- Effective communicator with excellent writing and presentation skills using Microsoft PowerPoint and Visio drawing tools.
- May be required to travel to remote locations to perform CDS installations in accordance with Program configuration management processes, independently perform troubleshooting, and provide status updates to Program personnel.
Basic Qualifications:

- An active Top-Secret clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
- 9 years' experience with a bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related field; 7 years' experience with a master’s degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related field; or 13 years' experience in lieu of a degree
- Must possess a DoD 8140 certification at IAT Level II or higher (Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA)
- Network traffic analysis, diagnostic, and troubleshooting experience.
- Proven experience with Ansible or other automation tools.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current and active Top Secret with an MDA-based SCI is highly desired.
- Radiant Mercury experience is highly desired.
- Script experience is a plus.
- Experience planning and supporting network infrastructure deployment are highly desired.
- Prior C2BMC network experience is also a plus.
