Northrop Grumman Space Systems is currently seeking a highly qualified Digital Hardware Engineer/Principal Digital Hardware Engineer  looking to join a program hardware team located in Alice Springs, AU.
The hardware team requires individuals with digital communication systems maintenance experience who can work in a structured configuration control environment.

The selected candidate will be required to:
• Know basic communication theory and be familiar with digital and analog modulation/demodulation techniques
• Perform system, subsystem, unit and board-level troubleshooting and repair
• Develop and modify procedures for alignment
• Respond to system and subsystem anomalies as required.
• Explain root cause and fault resolution to a technical and non-technical audience
• Have experience using oscilloscopes, BER testers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, volt meters and other equipment used for testing digital communication systems
• Have an understanding of AC & DC electronic theory as well as various communication protocols such as RS232, RS422, GPIB, etc.
• Have experience with BPSK & QPSK waveforms and methods for testing and troubleshooting systems that use such techniques
• Provide on-call 24/7 emergency anomaly response to diagnose data and support restoration/repair efforts
 
A comprehensive overseas compensation package is offered with this position including relocation assistance.

A 2 year commitment is required. Applicant must pass physical, psychological and security/polygraph screening.

**This position may be filled at either the Digital Hardware Engineer or  Principal Digital Hardware Engineer level**

Basic Qualifications for Digital Hardware Engineer: 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technical, Engineering or Math (STEM) with two (2) years of experience in one or more of the following areas: ground service, field service, SATCOM, hardware or RF engineering;
    • OR a Masters' Degree in Science, Technical, Engineering or Math (STEM)
    • OR six (6) years of experience in one or more of the in the aforementioned areas in lieu of a degree
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic communication theory, digital and analog modulation/demodulation techniques, AC & DC electronic theory
  • Experience using digital testing equipment such as oscilloscopes, BER testers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, volt meters and other equipment for testing digital communication systems and perform system, subsystem, unit and board level troubleshooting and repairs
  • Ability to work on elevated structures at heights of ~100 feet, in narrow and confined spaces, and lift and carry ~45 lbs (20 kgs)
  • Willing to commit to a two (2) year overseas tour assignment
  • Willing to complete a physical, psychological and security/polygraph screening.
  • Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
    • Dept of Defense Top Secret level with SSBI
    • OR SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
    • OR Dept of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Digital Hardware Engineer:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technical, Engineering or Math (STEM) with five (5) years of experience in one or more of the following areas: ground service, field service, SATCOM, hardware or RF engineering ; 
    • OR a Masters' Degree in Science, Technical, Engineering or Math (STEM) with three (3) years experience in one or more of the aforementioned areas
    • OR a PhD
    • OR nine (9) years of experience in one or more of the in the aforementioned areas in lieu of a degree
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic communication theory, digital and analog modulation/demodulation techniques, AC & DC electronic theory
  • Willing to complete a physical, psychological and security/polygraph screening.
  • Candidate must have, and be able to maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:
    • Dept of Defense Top Secret level with SSBI
    • OR SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
    • OR Dept of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active Top Secret/SCI clearance with an SSBI/Counter Intelligence polygraph within the last 4 years
  • Knowledgeable in BPSK & QPSK waveforms and methods for testing and troubleshooting systems that use such techniques
  • Knowledge and understanding of various communication protocols such as RS232, RS422, GPIB, etc
