Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal or Senior Principal Tool Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals located in rural Iuka, MS. The assignment may include one or more tooling development projects supporting manufacturing needs such as hand layup, fiber placement, assembly, machining, painting, and structural testing of composite parts. Iuka currently produces structures for Atlas, Delta, Antares, F-35 and other high end related parts. Some of our work requires Secret Clearance. Our Iuka facility employs about 200 people across Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Support Services. The work we do impacts our national security. Does this sound exciting to you? Responsibilities include the following:

  • Manage projects and coordinate all procurements and fabrication to meet the program cost and schedule requirements
  • Inspect fabricated support hardware to assure compliance to design
  • Work alongside the manufacturing team to ensure overall program quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved
  • Develop tooling concepts, create/review and improve manufacturing processes
  • Inspect tool configuration for drawing compliance, including fit, form and function
  • Evaluate vendor and equipment capability and ability to perform required tasks to include production of tooling as well as unique aerospace part production.

Tool engineers work across multiple programs which are broken out by program and product families. You will be working within your team to meet our customer needs and deliver quality products in a timely manner. Ownership and pride in work are really important to our employees. This position is for a day shift (Monday to Friday), and may require off hour support. Travel is estimated to be less than 10% and within the US, typically to support our customers. This position may be filled at a Principal or Senior Principal level depending on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications:

    Principal

    • Bachelors and 5+ years of engineering work experience, or a Masters and 3+ years of engineering work experience. Note: an additional 4 years of engineering work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance and Special Program Access
    • Demonstrated work experience as a tooling engineer (this should be evident in the resume)
    • 3D CADD modeling experience

    Senior Principal

    • Bachelors and 9+ years of engineering work experience, or a Masters and 7+ years of engineering work experience. Note: an additional 4 years of engineering work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance and Special Program Access
    • Demonstrated work experience as a tooling engineer (this should be evident in the resume)
    • 3D CADD modeling experience

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Active DoD security clearance
    • Experience with closed form and FE analysis practices; Prefer NX and ANSYS software systems.
    • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
    • Knowledge of aerospace specifications and requirements
    • Working knowledge of composite manufacturing techniques
    • Knowledge of continuous improvement
    • NX or Catia modeling experience


    Salary Range: 75300 - 112900
    Salary Range 2: 93300 - 139900

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
