NGMS is looking for a System Security Engineer candidate to join a multi-discipline engineering team that encompasses Cybersecurity and Anti-Tamper Engineering. Northrop Grumman’s System Security Engineering department is on the forefront of developing next generation solutions to protect technology for our nation’s warfighter.

The selected System Security Engineer candidate will have responsibility for all aspects of security engineering and have domain expertise or the opportunity to develop their knowledge in the following areas:

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Defining system architectures that are resistant to tamper and cyber-attacks
  • Support system requirements development by following standard processes for assessing, implementing and verifying security requirements
  • Identifying Anti-Tamper Critical Program Information (CPI) and writing Anti-Tamper Plans
  • Support Anti-Tamper/Cybersecurity Integration & Test and executing Verification & Validation requirements
  • Support program efforts in accordance with Government and NGC processes including, trade studies, research areas, and detailed analysis of system design to include microelectronic implementation and software implementation as well as system integration, verification and validation, and cost and risk
  • Provide analysis, design, development, implementation and security assessments to ensure compliance with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication (SP) 800-53, CNSSI 1253, and DoD RMF Knowledge Service guidance
  • Support the continuous assessment of IA Control compliance for the program
  • Prepare and present briefings to internal and external programs and customers

Domain Expertise

  • System engineering lifecycle
  • Hardware-focused anti-tamper techniques and countermeasures
  • Secure software architectures and applications
  • Advanced Microelectronic design and fabrication
  • Digital logic debug and analysis
  • Advanced integrated circuit (IC) failure analysis tools and techniques
  • Applied knowledge of cryptographic security, RMF, DFARS, and CMMC
  • Risk assessment and vulnerability management

Development Opportunities

  • Reverse Engineering to architect and validate AT solutions
  • Security Assessment and continuous monitoring
  • Strategic planning of Anti-Tamper technology development
  • Participating in communities of practice to further domain knowledge

The successful candidate should have a foundation in System Engineering with full development life cycle experience. The System Security Engineer interfaces with other engineering disciplines to develop the complete system security solution.

This position may be filled at a higher grade based on the qualifications listed below.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Engineer (T03):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 5 years general technical experience OR Master's with 3 Years of experience.
  • System Engineering knowledge of DoD based Platforms, Sensors and/or Sub-systems including but not limited to: RMF, RF, Radar, EO/IR, Satellite, Cryptography, Architecture development, etc.
  • Familiarity with requirements development and derivation or validation and verification
  • Eligible to obtain a DOD Secret clearance is required with the ability to obtain higher Special Access Program (SAP) clearances
  • US Citizenship is required

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Engineer (T04):

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 9 years general technical experience OR Master's with 7 Years of experience; OR PhD with 4 years of experience.
  • System Engineering knowledge of DoD based Platforms, Sensors and/or Sub-systems. Including but not limited to: RMF, RF, Radar, EO/IR, Satellite, Cryptography, Architecture development, etc.
  • Experience with hardware design or system integration
  • Experience with requirements development, derivation and validation and verification
  • Experience with continuous monitoring  to include ACAS and SCC scanning, patching and applying STIGs
  • Eligible to obtain a DOD Secret clearance is required with the ability to obtain higher Special Access Program (SAP) clearances
  • US Citizenship is required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degrees in Engineering, Software, or Science
  • Possess a DOD 8570 certification: CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or similar 
  • Experience with Anti-Tamper, Reverse Engineering, Hardware Design, Embedded Software or Cryptography
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance with periodic reinvestigation within the last five (5) years
  • Experience in technical leadership role
  • Experience working with Government AT agencies
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience contributing to and/or making technical presentations to internal and external customers
  • Ability to travel occasionally CONUS and OCONUS


Salary Range: 96600 - 145000
Salary Range 2: 119800 - 179600

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
