Northrop Grumman Mission Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Systems/Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals at our Linthicum/ Baltimore, MD campus.  This position requires a Security Clearance to be obtained prior to starting in the role.

The selected engineer will perform as a member of an interdisciplinary team of engineers and scientists on different project assignments to develop novel and innovative solutions to advanced technical problems. You will develop and apply mathematical models for simulation and analysis of electro-optical systems, and may have the ability to demonstrate those models on flight demonstrations, in lab environments, and in customer applications.

Initial expectations include:
 

•    Experience with electro-optical infrared signal processing algorithms and software development, testing, and troubleshooting

•    Familiarity documenting designs and test results

•    Designing, testing, implementing, and analyzing electro-optical infrared signal processing algorithms and software

•    Building prototypes, simulations, and systems for testing

•    Conducting and/or participating in technical design reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, etc.

Future responsibilities are expected to include:
•    Contributing to the development of innovative solutions to difficult problems

•    Supporting proposal teams and working with customers on product definition

•    Developing and executing design plans, design verification and validation.

•    Leading a team of 2-3 engineers

•    Presenting results to customers, both internal and external

Basic Qualifications:

  • A degree in Physics, Software or Computer Engineering, with:

    • Bachelor’s degree and 9-12 years of experience

    • Master’s degree and 7-10 years of experience

    • PhD and 4-7 years of experience

    • Degrees in related fields may be considered

  • Experience with Agile and Dev*Ops execution

  • Knowledge of with Embedded Software Systems Design and development

  • Knowledge of C++  and/or equivalent programming languages

  • Knowledge of GPU development

  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills

  • Good verbal and written communications skills for presentation of technical approaches, work performed, results, and findings

  • Willing and able to work onsite and more than 60% within a closed area at the Baltimore campus

  • Ability to assimilate new concepts quickly and independently

  • Secret Clearance required to start, U.S. Citizenship is a pre-requisite 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems

  • Experience in calibration/radiometric operations

  • Knowledge of Digital Image Processing algorithms

  • Knowledge of coordination transformations and reference frames

  • Ability to lead discussions between multidisciplinary teams to define and drive scope and clarity of work

  • Ability to regularly engage with senior stakeholders

  • Current Top Secret, SCI, and/or SAP accesses

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Salary Range: $132,100 USD - $198,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
