The Emerging Capabilities Development group of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an independent and resourceful Semiconductor Grinding and Lapping Process Production and Development Engineer for our Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) - located just outside of Baltimore, Maryland - where we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers as well as emerging technology programs.

 

Northrop Grumman’s ATL semiconductor foundry is a unique capability supporting a range of production microelectronic devices (Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, Silicon Carbide) and providing leading edge technology development in superconducting electronics. The Grinding/Lapping Sustaining Process Engineer is responsible for production support, process improvement and development of various Wafer Thinning/Lapping processes at ATL. The individual will interface with multiple research programs to solve complex technical challenges and production needs. The candidate must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment while developing solutions to multiple areas including superconducting, Si, Silicon Carbide, Gallium Arsenide, and Gallium Nitride.

The Sustaining Grinding/Lapping Process engineer should have some entry level knowledge with semiconductor processing. Engineer should be familiar with a wide variety of metrology tools such as surfscan, optical spectroscopy, and thin-film measurement tools. The select candidate should be hands on and demonstrate an ability to communicate well with others.

The Grinding/Lapping Process Engineering Sustainer will be responsible for:

1. All aspects of sustaining Grinding/Lapping processes including qualifications, technician training and certification, and process safety.

2. Interfacing with other unit process engineers and semiconductor technologists.

3. Writing and maintaining process documentation.

4. Supporting statistical process control (SPC) and continuous improvement efforts.

5. Managing lot movement and dispositioning lot holds.

Basic Qualifications for Associate Semiconductor Grinding/Lapping Process Sustaining Engineer:

-Bachelor of Science in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a similar discipline with 1 years of experience in CMP Process Engineering in a semiconductor environment. 

- Proven track record of production support, and/or process development.

- Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control, Continuous Improvement Methodology, Design of Experiments, and Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA).

- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to work in a team environment.

- Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Semiconductor Grinding/Lapping Process Sustaining Engineer:

 -Bachelor of Science in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a similar discipline with at least 2 years of experience (0 years required with MS) in CMP Process Engineering in a semiconductor environment.  

- Proven track record of production support, and/or process development.

- Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control, Continuous Improvement Methodology, Design of Experiments, and Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (FMEA).

- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written and the ability to work in a team environment.

- Must be a US Citizen and able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Previous grind/lapping process development experience and production sustainment support.

- Experience with AMAT platforms and other CMP tool manufactures.

- Experience or working knowledge of Lithography, Thin Films Deposition, PVD, Diffusion Processes.

- Excellent knowledge of clean technologies as applicable to CMP and Lapping/Grind will be highly desired.

- Experience leading and guiding the fab operation, maintenance and facilities teams

- Experience in lean manufacturing practices and structured problem-solving methodology

- Working knowledge of Process Statistical Control (SPC).

- Experience in risk management using tools like FMEA and setting up of a quality control plan (QCP)

- Experience developing and evaluating technical specifications for equipment procurement

- Experience with new equipment installation and qualification

- Experience in various statistical analysis tools, SPC, DOE Methodology (JMP, Minitab, etc), MES systems – FactoryWorks and similar systems, etc.

- Active Secret clearance desired


Salary Range: $65,000 USD - $97,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $78,600 USD - $118,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
