Northrop Grumman Enterprise Services Sector in Linthicum, Maryland is seeking a highly motivated Systems Support Manager 2 to support our Engineering, Manufacturing Systems & Infrastructure (EMSI) organization.

The EMSI organization is seeking an individual to manage a geographically distributed team of both junior and experienced infrastructure engineers and systems analysts supporting customer programs.  

This candidate is responsible for daily operations of the team (direct supervision of the staff, assignment of work, schedules, career development, and operating budget). Candidate is responsible for providing leadership direction to subordinates utilizing management guidelines and general policies, including planning and program performance, technical performance, and quality of work. The primary focus for the team is to provide support for infrastructure systems, software and engineering tools and applications currently utilized by programs within the Sectors supporting multiple enterprise level service lines – research, engineering and manufacturing networks and high-performance computing. 

Responsibilities include oversight of system administrators across all product lines who administer server operating systems and applications.  Candidate will meet with ESPMs, existing customers, potential customers, product-line owners, and system-line owners to understand requirements for server and application support.  Candidate will prioritize incoming requests and escalations for server and application support. 

Job Description:

  • Direct supervision/management of a staff of approximately 20 geographically distributed team members
  • Support goal planning, career development, and related management oversight for direct staff
  • Provide guidance and oversight to employees to complete key deliverables
  • Interact with EMSI teams and customers on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations
  • Coordinate strategic meetings and communication with MS PMO customers and partners
  • Work closely with IPT leads across the service lines to ensure organizational goals are being met
  • Analyze metrics to identify areas for improved efficiencies across all product lines supported by team members
  • Oversee updates and documentation of training materials for new System Administrators

This position requires collaboration and team building across multiple domains and a demonstrated ability to independently prioritize, plan, and execute work tasks in a rapidly changing, fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality results. Strong written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills will be demanded in this role.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) discipline and a minimum 5 years of relevant work experience
  • A minimum 2 years of experience leading teams of engineers/system administrators
  • Knowledge and experience with server and storage administration
  • Knowledge and experience with Windows and/or Linux operating systems
  • Knowledge and experience with System Administration and IT Management Process Improvement
  • Experience communicating with customers, other technical teams, and senior management to report status, proactively identify and resolve issues, and collect and refine requirements
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, matrixed environment
  • Time management skills and a proven ability to ensure completion of tasks within schedule and budget
  • US Citizenship is required for this position

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with project management of IT Support activities and Software engineering experience on large- and small-scale programs
  • Experience working in large-scale IT environment
  • Knowledge and experience with Agile Kanban and Scrum processes
  • Knowledge and experience with ITIL v4
  • Knowledge and familiarity with software/systems development pipelines, product life cycle processes, or high-performance computing clusters
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Network infrastructures
  • Knowledge and familiarity with the Atlassian Tool Suite
  • Understanding of virtualization technologies: VMware, vRealize Automation, and Horizon View VDI

Salary Range: $130,500 USD - $195,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
