As an integral part of our System Supportability team in Mission Engineering and System Architecture, you will be responsible for the execution of System Safety programs on multiple contracts to include conducting safety assessments by reviewing engineering designs for compliance with established safety criteria, as well as identifying, mitigating, and managing safety hazards in line with contractual requirements.


Roles and Responsibilities: 

  • Reviews product systems, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems

  • Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment and procedures to control or eliminate hazards

  • Develops safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements

  • Performs audits of operational areas and reports effectiveness of system safety program

  • Participates in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions

  • Evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost effective programs

  • Communicates with internal and external customers the effectiveness of a system safety program and present results at major milestone reviews

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with 10 years of experience, a Master’s degree with 7 years of experience or a PhD with 4 years of experience in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics, or related technical fields.

  • U.S. Citizenship and active Secret DoD clearance is required

  • Fluency with MIL-STD-882 and other applicable Hardware and Software Safety standards/guidelines

  • Knowledge in RTCA Do-178/254

  • Experience preparing System Safety program plans

  • Ability to establish design guidelines and criteria and develop safety requirements

  • Experience conducting system safety hazard analyses (i.e, PHA, SHA, SSHA, SRHA, O&SHA, FHA)

  • Experience developing Safety Analysis reports (i.e, SHA, SSHA, SAR, HHAR)

  • Utilization of a Hazard Tracking System (HTS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Top Secret DoD Clearance

  • Advanced degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or related technical fields

  • Experience with DoD System Safety programs

  • Knowledge of radar products

  • Identify, mitigate, and manage safety hazards in line with contractual requirements for various platforms (Airborne, Land, Shipboard, Space). 

  • Experience in SW Safety

  • Ability to utilize a requirements database to tag/track/manage Safety requirements

  • Experience performing accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities

  • Experience performing Safety audits

  • Experience performing System Safety across all phases of a program

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

Salary Range: $109,100 USD - $163,700 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
