Northrop Grumman Enterprise Services in Linthicum, MD is seeking a highly motivated, detailed-oriented Systems Engineer to join our team of diverse engineers supporting the Missions Systems Program Management Office (PMO).

Responsibilities include identifying automation opportunities, developing automation solutions for deployment of and maintenance of infrastructure using modern Infrastructure as Code technologies.  Primarily supporting the Enterprise Distributed Networking (EDN) network in a matrixed organization, which is a large heterogeneous unclassified development and engineering network spanning the continental United States.  The environment includes Linux systems (Redhat, CentOS, AlmaLinux, & Ubuntu), Windows and VMware Virtualization, with emphasis on supporting manufacturing IoT, software and hardware development teams in an exciting environment that works on and supports industry leading technologies.  Their critical responsibility will be to initiate, plan, lead, outline and design solutions, develop service roadmaps for system modernization efforts, leveraging new technology offerings across the Information technology and DevSecOps disciplines. The successful candidate must possess exceptional strengths in leadership, analysis, complex technical problem solving, customer focus, communications and mentorship.

Responsibilities include system design and evaluation, hardware/software installation, requirements analysis, and developing Infrastructure-as-a-Service platform architectures. Will also include maintaining system/software artifact documentation, developing infrastructure support procedures, and providing security support.

  • Coordinate strategic meetings and communication with MS PMO customers and partners
  • Analyze emerging technologies in the IT infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) space and recommend inclusion in the roadmap based on customer requirements
  • Design and develop advanced IaaS solutions for on-demand request-based provisioning of infrastructure
  • Analyze existing processes to identify and make recommendations on new vendor solutions
  • Work with customers, internal partner organizations, service leads and vendors to understand requirements and architect solutions
  • Work with subject matter experts to provide innovative modernization solutions for existing IT enterprise systems and cloud services
  • Coordinate with information security personnel for compliance with security requirements solutions
  • Facilitate special projects as they proceed through their normal life-cycle, from initiation to closure, using sound project management disciplines, such as Agile methodologies
  • Provide innovative solutions to decrease solution costs

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems Management or other closely related engineering discipline and 5 years of professional experience; 3 Years with Masters; or PhD
  • Able to design, implement and maintain complex enterprise systems and coordinate maintenance activities with other team members and users to produce least impact solutions.
  • Ability to provide technical leadership to team members on complex system implementation tasks
  • Proficiency with virtualization technologies:  VMware vSphere, vCenter Server, ESXi
  • Proficiency with Enterprise Linux (RHEL/CentOS) operating system
  • Fundamental understanding of IT automation and how to use it to produce repeatable solutions
  • Ability to work flex with some weekend hours expected
  • Experience providing remote system support
  • US Citizenship is required for this position


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with one or more of the following: VMware vRealize Automation, AWS or Azure Cloud, Kubernetes platforms (Rancher, Openshift, VMware Tanzu)
  • Experience with JavaScript, Python, PowerShell or other scripting languages.
  • Experience or Certification in Agile, DevSecOps, ITIL, or other industry certifications
  • Experience working in Agile teams, Scrum, Lean Agile, or Kanban
  • Experience with cyber security frameworks:RMF, NIST-800-171, Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC)
  • Experience designing / architecting / transforming enterprise level services and applications


Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
