Northrop Grumman Space Systems sector is seeking a Principal Mixed Signal Integrated Circuit (IC) Layout Engineer to join our team of creative and diverse engineers. The position will be located in Manhattan Beach, CA and will be part of the Electronics and Payloads’ RF and Mixed Signal Products Department - an organization of 160 plus engineers and technicians that develops components which include microwave and millimeter wave, low noise amplifiers, high linearity mixers, power amplifiers, multipliers, bandpass filters, modulators, frequency sources, high-speed/high-resolution ADCs, DACs, power-management ICs, custom mixed signal ICs, and SoCs for a variety of space and air programs.

The successful candidate will be able to perform the following essential functions with support from the design engineers:

  • Detailed Bipolar, Bi-CMOS and CMOS IC transistor-level layout using computer aided design (CAD) in Cadence or similar design tool

  • Run and debug layout versus schematic (LVS) and design rule checks (DRC) on designs varying in complexity from cell level through top-level with thousands of transistors  

  • Collaborate with design team on block and top-level floor-planning

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) field from an accredited institution and minimum 5 years of engineering experience in Mixed Signal Integrated Circuit (IC) design or layout

  • Technical experience working with Cadence Design System, Assura, and Calibre or equivalent CAD tool

  • Experience with IC layout, DRC and LVS

  • Excellent communication skills / Team player

  • Ability to multi-task across multiple layout tasks and teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing layouts for high-speed digital logic, and precision analog circuits in III-V, CMOS, and Bi-CMOS technologies

  • Knowledge on layout techniques for matching, isolating and shielding of signals and devices, minimizing of parasitics, and routing of high frequency lines

  • Knowledge of how to use place and route tools

  • Experience with FinFET layout or double-patterning or running DRC+, MAS, YES

  • Experience with system-on-chip layout and integration, Analog-on-Top Flow

  • Experience with radiation effects and rad-hard by design layout techniques

  • Programming knowledge in SKILL, TCL, Perl, and/or Python is a plus


Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
