The Digital Products Department (part of NG Strategic Space Systems) in Manhattan Beach, CA is seeking a talented Engineer Digital 5 - Subcontract Technical Manager. This person will oversee all phases of a digital hardware development performed by a subcontractor, from subcontractor proposal evaluation through flight article delivery. This role can also be worked out of Gilbert, Arizona.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced digital design engineer who possesses project management and technical leadership skills.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Acts as the main program focal point to the subcontractor; briefs executive management and customer on the status and issues affecting performance, schedule, or cost; and conducts program reviews with the subcontractor.

  • Lead a team composed of multi-disciplinary engineers, quality and global supply chain personnel.

  • Directs all phases of the subcontract including requests for proposals, subcontract management plans, negotiation strategy, and cost accountability.

  • Establishes milestone objectives and manages performance to committed costs, schedules and contractual specifications.

  • Directs and manages all cost, schedule and technical performance requirements that are levied on the subcontractor for the product to ensure successful subcontractor performance and their ongoing support of the program objective.

  • Manage subcontract cost and schedule to ensure on-time schedule delivery of compliant design, EMs and flight hardware. 

  • Assure technical requirements are properly captured, flowed down, understood, executable and verified.

  • Ensure proper parts selection and qualification is performed by the subcontractor as required.

  • Review technical SDRLs generated by the subcontractor (e.g. worst case analysis, reliability/FMEA, and radiation).

The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM from an accredited institution and 14+ years of experience in an Engineering environment; OR, a minimum of 12+ years of experience with a STEM Master's degree; OR a minimum of 9+ years of experience with STEM PhD. degree

  • Previous experience in subcontract technical management

  • Previous CAM/EVMS and cost schedule management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in subcontract technical management

  • 10+ years of CAM/EVMS and cost schedule management experience

  • 10+ years of digital unit/board design and analysis for space applications

  • Experience with digital signal processing

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an accredited institution

  • Ability to obtain and maintain, at least ONE of the following active U.S. Government security clearances:

  • Dept of Defense Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years

    OR SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years

    OR Dept of Energy Q clearance with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within 5 years



Salary Range: $171,600 USD - $257,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
