Northrop Grumman Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) has an opening for a Director 1 - Ultima Communications Program Manager to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Manhattan Beach, California, and reports directly to the Wideband and Emerging Communications OU Director, and will manage a critical and strategic program within the Wideband and Emerging Communications OU and the Communications Systems BU.

As the Ultima Communications Program Manager, you will be responsible for the cost, schedule, and technical management from design through production of communication subsystems.  You will lead a group of SMEs and IPT leads across a variety of multi-disciplined hardware engineering, vehicle engineering, system engineering, quality, parts/materials, production, and I&T teams. 

In this role you will:

  • Lead a team with Intercompany Work Orders, complex subcontracts with large and small businesses, and general procurements across the United States. 

  • Participate in the definitization and baselining of the contract and any contract change negotiations.

  • Coordinate the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/ conditions of contract.  

  • Serve as primary customer contact for program activities, leading program review sessions with customers to discuss schedule and technical performance. Establish design concepts, criteria and engineering efforts for product development, integration, and test.

  • Establish milestones and monitor adherence to master plans and schedules, identifying program problems and obtaining solutions.

  • Direct the work of employees assigned to the program from technical, manufacturing and administrative areas and manage the program to the constraints of an Firm Fixed Price (FFP) program.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 10 years of experience with increasing responsibility

  • Five (5) years of direct experience leading people, projects or programs to successful goal attainment

  • Experience in program execution and demonstrated ability to meet program technical, cost, and schedule milestones

  • Demonstrated ability to create trusted relationships with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders

  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex programs/IPT's involving engineering, business, contracts, law, supply chain, production and mission/quality assurance disciplines

  • Proven ability to lead a high performing team with evidence of being able to create an inclusive work environment that attracts, retain and inspire diverse and engaged teams

  • Proven ability to deliver effective communication verbally, written, and through well-crafted presentations across all levels of an organization

  • Demonstrated experience in hardware development programs. 

  • Active SCI clearance and/or an SSBI within the last 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in STEM discipline or MBA from an accredited university

  • Proven experience delivering Class A space hardware on-schedule in a multi-shipset production environment, with IPT and/or Project Management experience across multiple phases of program lifecycle

  • Experience with relationship management of highly capable customers with daily communication cycles.

  • Experience leading day-to-day operations on complex programs, with proven collaboration and coordination skills across internal and external stakeholder organizations

  • Experience with resource planning across multiple phases of program lifecycle

  • Leadership experience in effective change management

  • Conflict management and negotiation skills

  • Experience with risk, issue, and opportunity management

  • Demonstrated ability to make tough decisions

Salary Range: $198,200 USD - $297,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
