Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector is seeking a Financial Planning and Analysis Director 2 to lead the Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) organization at our sector headquarters in McLean, Virginia. The selected candidate will report directly to the Sector Vice President and Controller with daily, direct engagement with the sector CFO. The FP&A Director performs a critical function for the sector as they analyze, report, and frame fact-based financial and business performance information for key decision makers. The selected candidate must possess strong analytical skills and financial acumen, and intellectual curiosity combined with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Build and maintain a highly motivated and engaged team of business professionals
  • Leads a team of business professionals and interact on a regular basis with both division and corporate level staff
  • Interfaces with members of the Sector Leadership Team and their peers throughout the sector and enterprise
  • Financial Forecasting and Analysis, including working with the divisions to understand key drivers, unidentified opportunities, and risk to improve our forecasting accuracy in a systematic fashion
  • Provides leadership with independent assessments of financial conditions and outlooks
  • Recommendation of the sector level monthly rolling forecast; and coordination, preparation and analysis of inputs to the Strategy Review, AOP/LRSP reviews and submittal, Capital Plan reviews and submittal and Prompt Start review
  • Monthly Business Performance Reporting and Analysis including narrative analysis of key drivers and variances
  • Coordinating, assessing and consolidating financial risks and opportunities to near and long term forecasts with clear identification of major drivers to deliver forecast
  • Ensuring all output is timely, accurate, and coordinated with relevant stakeholders
  • Preparation of relevant business case analysis including ROI, IRR, and NPV Analysis
  • Support and valuation of M&A activity as required
  • Overseeing forecasting tools and processes with an effort to further automate and streamline forecasting process

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have one of the following:
    • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related discipline with 10 years of related experience
    • Master’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related discipline with 8 years related experience
  • Ability to work in McLean, may support occasional telecommuting
  • Must be able to travel as needed (up to 10% of the time)
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership building and leading teams, and problem solving accomplishments
  • Master’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related discipline
  • Eight to ten years with direct Aerospace and Defense related experience preferred
  • Current Active Secret Clearance preferred


Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
