Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector has an opening for a Staff Systems Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals on our Battlespace Architecture System and Technologies team. This position will be in Melbourne, FL.

We are looking for a Systems Engineer with a background in wireless communications to support our 5g Vulcan lab interoperability effort and portfolio CRAD opportunities. The candidate will be working with emerging technologies and developing concept insertions for kill chain acceleration. 

We are looking for innovative thinkers who are interested in supporting the application of commercial technologies to operational military use cases.  These technologies include 5G communications, machine learning, and future wireless technologies in support of advanced battle management capabilities.  The qualified candidate must be able to thrive in fast-paced environments, minimum skills include comfortable multi-tasking and reprioritizing daily, drafting whitepapers and proposals, building PowerPoint, and giving verbal presentations, and self-educating without direction.  Desired experience in creating Basis of Estimates (BOEs) and/or executing program budgets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The engineer will have the opportunity to support development of technical baselines, execution plans, integrated schedules, funding profiles, staffing plans, and milestone deliverables in conjunction with the BAST RAD projects.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to provide technical support and 5G domain knowledge for development of internal and external partnerships and maintain strong technical relationships to support 5G interoperability strategy.
  • The engineer will have the opportunity to provide technical support and 5G domain knowledge for engagement with commercial and DoD customers.
  • The engineer will support program capture activities as needed.
  • The engineer will drive technical execution of project and program tasks supporting our 5g Vulcan lab lead.   
  • The engineer will also have the opportunity to shape new business opportunities by:   
    • Driving external customer engagements - understanding their needs and sharing our concepts.
    • Collaborating across the NGAD divisions to share our 5G insertion strategies and benefits.
    • Maintaining engagement with our project / program teams for continued awareness of new and emerging technologies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 14 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 12 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, OR a Ph.D. AND 9 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering.
  • Must have strong systems engineering, including agile and model-based engineering, and technical background.
  • Must have strong communications skills and strong collaboration skills, as well as proposal writing and verbal communication skills with expertise in providing targeted, straight to the point messaging.
  • Must have experience performing advanced communications trade studies, as well as with strong designs/analysis skills and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret clearance (or higher)
  • Background of communication theory, networking concepts and protocols is strongly desired, and a focus on RF/Wireless Communications.
  • Experience with Hardware-in-the-Loop integration and analysis with RF communication applications.
  • Experience in the telecommunications industry (network provider, MNO / MSO, silicon provider, device OEM, etc.) architecting or deploy complex communication networks is desired.
  • Excellent knowledge of LTE and 5G-NR is desired.
  • Experience with developing white papers for customer facing information is desired.
  • RF CCA development or RF module development or RF Antenna development or related RF hardware components development experience would be a plus.
  • Strong software background.
  • CONOP development experience.
  • Experience in captures and proposal development such as costing, technical writing, estimating, statement of work, and supplier management.
  • Demonstrated experience in research and development programs.

Salary Range: $134,700 USD - $202,100 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
