Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking Vehicle Loads and Dynamics Engineers / Principal Vehicle Loads and Dynamics Engineers to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Melbourne, FL. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Key Responsibilities:

Working under the general supervision of senior engineers and subject matter experts, the candidate will work on one or more of the following tasks:

  • Development of design loads criteria and governing documents.
  • Flight loads: steady state maneuvers, abrupt maneuvers, gust response, control surface hinge moments, and all including aero-elastic effects.
  • Ground loads: crash loads ground handling, landing loads, taxi and take-off loads, and drop test loads.
  • Miscellaneous loads: canopy, door, pressurization, engine mount, external store, tie-down/mooring, and aerial refueling.
  • Dynamics loads: gust response, buffet analysis, store ejection, impact, and vibro-acoustics.
  • Aeroelasticity and flutter analysis.
  • Fatigue spectra generation: master event spectrum, event sequencing, and loads spectra.
  • Flight and ground testing: loads instrumentation and calibration, structural static/proof, flight ground vibration test planning.
  • Dynamics tests such as GVT pre-test analysis, data reduction and model correlation.
  • The candidate will be responsible for performing analyses using commercial and in-house codes and providing solutions to a variety of loads related technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic Qualifications for a Loads and Dynamics Engineer are a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 2 years of related professional/military engineering experience, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Basic Qualifications for a Principal Loads and Dynamics Engineer are a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 5 years of related professional/military engineering experience, OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional/military engineering experience OR a PhD in STEM and 1 year of related professional/military experience.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance or higher (that has a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or is under continuous evaluation). 
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Program Access prior to the commencement of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university with an emphasis in aircraft loads (flight loads, ground loads, flutter and aeroelasticity, etc.).
  • Knowledge of detailed ground and flight loads and load mitigation.
  • Experience in vehicle loads analysis with emphasis on flight / ground loads to include steady state maneuvers, abrupt maneuvers, gust response, and control surface hinge moments.
  • Experience developing loads for miscellaneous conditions including canopy, door, pressurization, engine mount, external store, tie-down/mooring, and aerial refueling.
  • Strong foundation in structural dynamic analysis with concentration in flow-structure coupling and aeroelastic analysis.
  • Experience with flutter, aero-servo elastic analysis, gust response analysis, vibro-acoustics, impact, and store ejection.
  • Experience in the use of industry standard loads and dynamics analysis software: NASTRAN, PATRAN, FEMAP, ZONAIR, ZAERO
  • Experience with MATLAB.
  • Experience with CAD Tools (NX).

Salary Range: $71,100 USD - $106,700 USD
Salary Range 2: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
