Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a GNC Engineer / Principal GNC Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The position can be located in Melbourne, Florida; El Segundo, California; or San Diego, California. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

Design, develop, implement, verify and test algorithms, software and simulation tools to perform guidance, navigation and control (GNC) of manned aircraft.  Develop control laws to meet air vehicle performance, flying qualities and stability margin requirements, both on ground and in flight.  Design pilot relief autopilot and associated logic functions.  Develop air vehicle system linear and non-linear dynamic simulation models and integrate models into software and hardware-in-the-loop simulation environments.  Perform performance and flying qualities analysis.  Conduct non-linear six-degree-of-freedom and linear stability & control analyses. Generate embedded software for design, code, and test.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • The basic qualifications for a GNC Engineer are a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with 2 years of experience, or a Master’s degree in STEM
  • The basic qualifications for a Principal GNC Engineer are a Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 5 years’ experience, Master’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline with a minimum of 3 years' experience
  • Knowledge of Flight Science disciplines.
  • Exposure to using MATLAB to create, process, analyze, and visually represent data  
  • Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of fixed-wing aircraft flight sciences, e.g. aerodynamics, propulsion, loads & dynamics, and etc.
  • Experience designing and analyzing control laws for fixed wing aircraft to meet performance, stability & control, and handling qualities requirements
  • Experience using Simulink to model dynamical systems
  • C/C++ programming skills
  • Python programming skills
  • JAVA programming skills
  • Active DOD Top Secret clearance


Salary Range: $71,100 USD - $123,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $87,600 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
