Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for an Air Vehicle Structural Certification & Integrity IPT Engineering Manager 3 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Vehicle Engineering organization. This leadership role is in Melbourne, FL.  

The successful candidate will manage a multi-functional and cross-discipline east coast team and report to the Air Vehicle Structural Certification & Integrity IPT Director.  The manager will be responsible for tasking associated with the sub IPTs: Mass Properties/Configuration, Stress, and Certification & Integrity.  Responsibilities include risk management, schedule and cost status/reviews, technical board package preparation, and program level briefings.

The IPT Engineering Manager 3 provides unambiguous direction and communication to ensure that managers and individual team members understand their roles and responsibilities and that expectations are clearly set; ensures successful completion of IPT milestones, tracks and manages cost and schedule performance, represents the IPT lead at Air Vehicle and Program meetings, and assists the team in preparing technical briefings as required by the Program.

The IPT Engineering Manager 3 will utilize the support of collaborating with other subject areas both within and outside of Engineering and will collaborate with the Air Vehicle Structural Certification & Integrity Leads, Chief Engineers, and IPT Managers in a team environment to achieve program goals.

The Air Vehicle Structural Certification & Integrity IPT Engineering Manager 3 ensures that technical, cost and schedule performance measures are being met with particular focus on air vehicle quality, weight management, producibility and affordability; ensures that detail design approaches align with Sector processes, procedures and strong design/architecture approaches; meets first time engineering quality and affordability objectives; plans staffing requirements and collaborate with Vehicle Engineering and other functional homerooms to ensure staffing needs are met; supports preparation of cost inputs for all new proposals and Engineering Change Proposals within their Air Vehicle product segment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 12 years engineering experience in the aircraft industry, with demonstrated ability to plan, estimate, prioritize, integrate, and lead technical activities, OR a Master's degree in a STEM field with 10 years’ experience.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance (with a background investigation within the past 6 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance prior to start.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience in structural analysis, mass properties, structural certification, and the airworthiness process
  • Current/Active Special Program Access clearance.
  • Prior IPT and/or functional homeroom leadership experience
  • Experience collaborating with a DoD customer
  • Knowledge of Cost Account Manager (CAM) processes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team and across team environments.
  • Ability to prioritize and adjust tasks to accomplish the project result.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and/or accomplishing them simultaneously.
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze sophisticated problems and develop solutions.
  • Ability to be responsible for an engineering or multi-functional team.

Salary Range: $134,200 USD - $201,400 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
