Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located at the Manned Aircraft Design Center in Melbourne, Florida.

The Principal EHS Engineer will play a role in the execution of various elements of the site's environmental management system. The position will contribute to maintaining a certified environmental management system and the continuous improvement of our processes. This position requires the individual to work closely and positively interact with a variety of different disciplines in an engineering and manufacturing design setting.

This position will involve environmental compliance matters including but not limited to: wastewater, storm water, air emissions, hazardous waste, and hazardous materials.  Essential functions will include environmental reporting, assisting with pollution prevention activities, compliance auditing, and the evaluation of proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public and environmental impact. Additionally, it will involve maintaining and updating Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plans, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans, Hazardous Waste Contingency Plans, and Hazardous Materials Management plans.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each of the following essential functions:
Interpret, recommend and ensure compliance with environmental regulations and/or company policies.
Assist in planning for changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements.
Find, evaluate and prepare contracts for properly licensed hazardous waste disposal firms and monitor waste handling.
Organize and equip spill control teams.
Author and update environmental manuals, procedures, and forms.
Prepare environmental impact statements and apply for all new permits and renewals.
Provide input to federal and state regulators through trade associations and industry groups for the authoring and revision of regulations.
Audit and inspect facilities for compliance with company environmental policies and applicable regulations and develop practices to ensure that everyone from the shop floor to management is engaged.
Design and present training programs to associates addressing relevant environmental issues in order to maintain compliance with applicable regulations.
Support managers and supervisors with spill response, investigation and root cause analysis and be part of any solutions and improvements.
Prioritize resources and demonstrate effective time management to accomplish a broad spectrum of activities in a complex environment. 
Support the site’s environmental sustainability program.
Adhere to established company values, practices, policies and procedures at all times.

Responsibilities and Duties include:

Develop, administer and implement environmental programs in accordance with governmental requirements.
Monitor pollution prevention activities, compliance and auditing efforts.
Prepare environmental impact reports for new construction projects, plant processes and permit changes.
Review and analyze environmental documentation issued by the federal EPA, state and local regulatory agencies.  Evaluate proposed regulations to determine financial, industrial, public and environmental impact.
Interact with federal, state and local regulators to resolve compliance issues; establish permit requirements and assist in EPA, state and local regulatory audits.
Represent company in government and industry rule-making activities.

Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree, Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) in environmental engineering, science or a related field 
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Environmental Science implementing initiatives in a manufacturing environment 
Thorough knowledge of EPA, FDEP, NESHAP, ISO 14001, DOT regulations and standards
Must have excellent communication and collaboration skills with all levels of an organization
Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance
Must have computer related skills for database management, internet/intranet use, and/or typical Microsoft Office related programs

Preferred Qualifications: 
Three years of experience in an aerospace manufacturing environment
ISO 14001 Lead Auditor
Experience with Microsoft SharePoint programs

Salary Range: $79,700 USD - $119,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
