Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has on opening for a Structural Engineer position to join our team of qualified diverse individuals. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA.


The selected candidate will become part of the Analysis Engineering team within the Vehicle Engineering IPT and responsibilities include:

  • Perform Structural Analysis Methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis, as well as the development and manipulation of large Finite Element Models.

  • Provides stress MRB dispositions for primary and secondary structure.

  • Maintains and improves part designs, equipment, and systems in support of production deliveries.

  • Supervise design solutions from initial concept to final implementation.

  • Coordination and clear communication with other disciplines during the development of design solutions.

  • Research, develop, design, test, document, and recommend solutions to engineering mechanical/composite components and assemblies.

  • Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics).

  • Concise presentation and explanation of structural issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.

  • Performs structural analysis to a wide variety of designs and materials including both composites and metals. Analysis includes but not limited to static, dynamic, fatigue and damage tolerance.

  • Review of completed analyses, drawings, and repairs for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.  

  • Evaluation of engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.

Basic Qualifications (Structural Engineer):

  •  BS degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil) and a minimum of 2 years of experience in Aerospace structural analysis or MS degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil) with educational experience in Aerospace structural analysis.

  • Experience in Structural Analysis Methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis, as well as the development and manipulation of Finite Element Models.

  • Proficient with typical office toolsets such as Windows OS and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Must have an active DOD Secret Clearance (investigated within the past 6 years)

  • Must have the ability to obtain a program security access prior to starting

Basic Qualifications (Principal Structural Engineer):

  • BS degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil) and a minimum of 5 years of experience in Aerospace structural analysis or 3 years with a Masters

  • Experience in Bonded Composite Structural Analysis of primary and secondary aircraft structures.

  • Experience in Structural Analysis Methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis, as well as the development and manipulation of large Finite Element Models.

  • Proficient with typical office toolsets such as Windows OS and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Must have an active DOD Secret Clearance (investigated within the past 6 years)

  • Must have the ability to obtain a program security access prior to starting

Preferred Qualifications (Structural Engineer):

  • 2 years or more Aerospace structural analysis experience using NASTRAN, PATRAN, or FEMAP.

  • Experience with analysis of composite structure and repair methods

  • Experience with analysis of metallic structure and repair methods

  • Experience working on Special Access Programs

Preferred Qualifications (Principal Structural Engineer):

  • 5 years or more Aerospace structural analysis experience using NASTRAN, PATRAN, or FEMAP.

  • Experience with analysis of metallic structure and repair methods

  • Experience working on Special Access Programs

Salary Range: $82,400 USD - $123,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
