Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Staff System Test Engineer (Level 5) This position will be located in Mojave, CA but will relocate to Melbourne, FL post contract award.
 
Essential Functions:  
System Test Engineer with Flight Test Bed (FTB) experience to lead the development and execution of multiple Test and Evaluation efforts on a Priority Win Capture Program that maximizes the use of surrogate FTB aircraft to align with The Programs acquisition strategy.

This Systems Test Engineering role will report to the Flight Test Manager for The Program. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels of The Program.  

The candidate must be able to collaborate closely with System Engineers, hardware and software engineers, and integration/test engineers to provide leadership and guidance within Northrop Grumman, our suppliers and customer. The candidate will lead test working group meetings, develop aircraft modification and test schedules, develop presentations to status task progress and cost/schedule performance for the various FTB projects.

Duties include:

  • Provide technical leadership for the Systems Test IPT, responsible for developmental test, integration, and execution of multiple surrogate FTB efforts supporting the Program

  • Work closely with the Program technical management to ensure on-time development and execution of the Programs FTB activities

  • Work with Mission Systems IPT to define the requirements for the systems under test

  • Knowledge of requirements development to include Systems Test Procedures for lab integration, test and Special Test Equipment

  • Knowledge of lab processes, hardware testing, integration and System Qualification Testing

  • Main technical point of contact for engineering issues related to Cost & Schedule performance and Risk management for development efforts

  • Ensuring technical issues are understood, addressed immediately, and expeditiously develop & implement technical solutions and corrective actions

  • Lead system testing, reporting, development of test procedures and data acquisition 

  • Knowledgeable in systems engineering, systems architecture, and IV&V engineering principles


Desired Skills:

  • Execute Integration and Test procedures; troubleshoot lab and system/software/hardware stability issues; assist with development of solutions to the technical problems.

  • Proven technical competence in a complex system development environment.

  • Systems design, integration, test, verification, and validation.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • 14 Years in Engineering with a Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM), OR 12 years with Masters in STEM, OR 9 Years with a PH.D in STEM

  • 10 years experience in Flight Test

  • Solid understanding of test methodologies, system architectures, and system troubleshooting required

  • Must have very strong organization, coordination, planning and teaming skills

  • Ability to simplify specifications to system performance, interface, test and verification requirements

  • US Citizenship required

  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to a Special Access Program

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Systems Test and or Flight Test certification

  • Current Program Access

  • Current Top Secret Clearance


Salary Range: $141,800 USD - $212,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
