The Northrop Grumman Defense Systems sector is seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Engineer to become part of Northrop Grumman’s organization supporting the Army Analytics Group’s Research Facilitation Laboratory located in Monterey, California.

The team conducts a variety of research studies and supports data analytics efforts for clients across the Army, Office of the Secretary of Defense and greater DoD, conducting high-quality research with practical real-world implications. The team works primarily within a data environment that houses a wealth of administrative, personnel, survey, and medical data (i.e., “big data”) on extremely large populations. Projects generally focus on resilience, health, and readiness among military service members, and include population-based studies, machine learning projects, visual analytics platforms, measurement analysis, and pilot program evaluations.
In support of our Army customer, we are modernizing their IT infrastructure and seeking an experienced Amazon Web Services (AWS) Cloud Engineer with expertise in the strategy, design, development, and implementation of large-scale projects in the cloud. The ideal candidate is experienced in cloud-based AWS technologies, with a firm grasp of AWS platforms, applications, and ability to customize them to help our organization become more secure and efficient. Objectives of this Role:

• Define and document best practices and strategies regarding application deployment and infrastructure maintenance
• Support the migration of on premise systems to AWS

• Ensure application performance, uptime, and scale, maintaining high standards of code quality and thoughtful design

• Managing cloud environments in accordance with DoD/Army security guidelines

Role & Responsibilities: 

• Develop and implement technical efforts to design, build, and deploy AWS systems including large-scale data processing, computationally intensive statistical modeling, and advanced analytics

• Troubleshoot incidents, identify root cause, fix and document problems, and implement preventive measures

• Educate teams on the implementation of new cloud-based initiatives

• Employ exceptional problem-solving skills, with the ability to see and solve issues before they affect business productivity

 

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; Master's degree and 7 years; PhD and 4 years; additional equivalent working experience will be considered.
  

• Minimum of 3 years experience implementing and administering cloud solutions on AWS platforms

• Experience in several of the following areas:
• systems administration
  
• system architecture
  
• cloud migration
  
• system automation
• big data
  
• advanced analytics

• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain & hold a DoD Secret clearance (an Interim Secret clearance is required to start).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active DoD Secret clearance
• AWS Solution Architect certification
• Experience supporting AWS Govcloud
• Active DoD 8570 certificate such as Compton Security+
