Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) seeks to fill a Staff Systems Engineer role in the Payload and Ground Systems Division Engineering organization supporting Integrated National Systems (INS) Business Unit (BU) to support a new Ground program.  We are seeking a Systems Engineer with experience in Mission Management.  The ideal candidate should have the ability to adapt existing functionality to meet mission needs and have the experience to lead a team of software and systems engineers to develop solutions to complex mission management challenges. This position can be filled at our Morrisville NC, Fairfax, VA, or Linthicum, MD offices.

What you’ll get to do? Staff Systems Engineer: Designs and develops system architectures and defines key capabilities and performance requirements. Defines design and technology maturity constraints of the system in accordance with customer specifications. Develops thorough definition of system external interfaces. Defines system implementation approach and operational concept. Ensures requirements are met and evaluates performance with customer.

Basic Qualifications: 

Staff Systems Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with a minimum of 14 years’ related experience in an engineering environment, 12 years with Masters; 9 Years with PhD

  • This position requires a current/active TS/SCI and the willingness to take a CI poly

  • Experience in software systems requirements decomposition, design, development, software integration and/or test.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experienced in Mission Management for Ground systems

  • Experienced with various systems engineering tools and techniques including model-based systems engineering such as Cameo, Confluence, Bitbucket, and DOORS for requirements management

  • Experience in multiple aspects of the engineering process from proposal / requirements analysis through verification testing

  • Experience in a Systems Engineering Integration & Test environment for remote sensing space systems, especially within the defense industry

  • Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Strong work ethic and the proven leadership skills in an integrated product team (IPT) environment

  • Experience with satellite systems and ground architectures, and cloud computing architectures

  • Experience in development and Earned Value Management (EVM) of cost accounts and schedules

  • Experience with Cloud architectures, Docker, and Kubernetes


Salary Range: $129,000 USD - $212,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
