Northrop Grumman Enterprise Services is seeking a well-qualified Systems Administrator to join its dynamic extended support team of technical professionals supporting our Space Sector.

This candidate will be based at our New Church, VA location with opportunity for a hybrid arrangement as directed by program requirements. This candidate will utilize and leverage the Enterprise Services platforms to support program specific requirements.

Primary responsibilities include management of a highly available zero down-time network enclave, regular maintenance of that enclave network, creation and maintenance of Layer 1 and Layer 3 diagrams to reflect Program directed requirements. Provide support for enclave network, including on-demand, off-hours troubleshooting in support of critical Program operations.  Execution of corrective action to support problem resolution of infrastructure hardware and software elements to ensure availability of firewall, switch, and router infrastructure and all associated components. Act as the environment representative liaison to collaborate with enterprise teams as it pertains to Program needs.

Additional duties may include:

  • Manage multiple efforts of short and long-term duration that are of significant influence on the network, storage, and server infrastructure at the site. Maintains smooth operation of local area networks, and all interactions with domestic and foreign network components (including UDP broadcast INCONUS and OUTCONUS, global SFTP pathway management, etc...).
  • Troubleshoot traffic/network issues to include finding/evaluating traffic paths, firewall rules for specific paths, and end-point device troubleshooting.
  • Perform vulnerability assessment/management to include AV scans and port/network scans, of all required assets in such a manner as to maintain the zero-interruption operating requirement of the network and all end-point devices; AV implementation must result in no quarantine, latency, or any other result which could affect network/asset availability.
  • Analyze internal and external customer requirements and determine equipment and software requirements for solutions to problems by means of automated systems.
  • Review recommendations and system enhancements that will improve the performance and reliability of the system including installing, upgrading/patching, monitoring, problem resolution, and configuration management.
  • Create a preventative maintenance program to ensure all network assets are optimized, up to date with Manufacturer recommendations, comply with industry best-practices, and make use of automation when possible
  • May propose solutions to management to ensure all communications requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings, and increase reliability and ‘up-time’ of all network assets. 
  • Develop and document technical processes and procedures as needed.
  • Interact, meet, discuss, and troubleshoot issues with vendors; evaluate vendor products, services, and suggestions.
  • Adhere to strict Information Systems security guidelines in all cases.
  • Maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems which may include coordination with various engineering disciplines, PC desktop technicians, project managers, end users, and cross department management.
  • Test new releases of products to ensure compatibility and minimize user impact.
  • Utilize Enterprise Services platforms to manage task and project workloads while producing performance metrics and reports
  • Work under minimal direction and independently determine and develop approach to solutions.

In addition, this candidate will also provide leadership and support to broader infrastructure activities, as part of the Space Sector ES PMO operations team.

Basic Qualifications

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of relevant IT professional experience. (4 additional years of experience will be considered in lieu of the degree requirement)
  • 3-5 years network administration experience
  • Proven ability to define large-scale project scope, required tasks to achieve stated goal, project deliverable and artifacts definition, project timeline development, scheduling, budget creation and resource management.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface directly with vendors at a high technical level on existing enterprise solutions and new services technical requirements/deliverables and develop technical solutions to complex problems, requiring the regular use of their ingenuity and creativity.
  • Demonstrated ability to interface with ‘internal’ customers and management to build consensus within the organization to execute on technical goals.
  • Demonstrated performance in working in a fast-paced environment delivering a high degree of quality and customer satisfaction. 
  • Flexible hours are required, at times supporting 24h operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidate must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and good interpersonal skills and has a strong willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated performance in working in a fast-paced environment delivering a high degree of quality and customer satisfaction. 
  • Familiarity with Enterprise level ticketing systems
  • Project management experience
  • Network or Security certifications

Demonstrated troubleshooting ability when time-constrained in a high-pressure environment

Salary Range: $83,800 USD - $125,800 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
