Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Dimensional Calibration Technician to join its Calibration Services team in Linthicum, Maryland.
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
• Repair, calibrate, modify and maintain mechanical and dimensional measuring & test equipment (M&TE) and instrumentation devising methods, procedures, and standards to be utilized on new and existing M&TE. Responsible for the daily operation of the assigned calibration facility and the service to its internal customers and service providers.
• Apply knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, physics, and electronics to calibrate measuring and test equipment to ensure measurement accuracy.
• Identify and precisely follow established calibration procedures, and accurately record results. Follow and maintain calibration procedures and appropriate laboratory practices in accordance with Command Media and ISO requirements.
• Capable of using high precision measuring equipment and scientific instruments to calibrate, verify, adjust and repair M&TE. Typical M&TE includes, but is not limited to: alignment telescopes, autocollimators, theodolites, dial and digital calipers, micrometers, gage blocks, dial indicators, bore gages, plug gages, optical flats, surface plates, hardness testing machines, thread gages, torque wrenches and v block sets.
• Adapt equipment, standards, and procedures to accomplish unique measurements.
• Must be meticulous when documenting results and maintaining records pertinent to the calibration process.
• Determine salvageability of broken, damaged or inoperable M&TE. Review the status of M&TE in various departments and determine the applicability of each piece of equipment to current testing requirements and the laboratory standards as required. Make recommendations as to the purchase, for calibration purposes, of additional apparatus and equipment suggesting substitutions where practical. Specify type of equipment where specialized or particular types of test data are critical. Make recommendations as to disposal of obsolete M&TE.
Typical Duties:
- Perform calibrations on M&TE
- Identify and utilize appropriate calibration standards and procedures
- Perform corrective actions to address identified measurement problems; - Adapt equipment, standards, and procedures to accomplish unique measurements
- Maintain calibration standards and associated support equipment
- Perform laboratory and/or departmental housekeeping
- Interface with internal customers and external vendors when challenges arise.
This is an IUE Union represented position.
This is a 1st shift position.
Basic Qualifications:
• High school graduate or recognized equivalent.
• Certificate in mechanical/dimensional metrology or other comparable certification in metrology techniques.
• A minimum of six months military metrology school or equivalent, plus two years working experience in the maintenance and repair of mechanical and dimensional measuring and test equipment can substitute for certification.
• Three years prior experience as a Dimensional Calibration Technician or its equivalent or five (5) years practical experience in calibration and instrumentation measurement field of a military or defense industry nature.
