Northrop Grumman Defense Systems has an opening for a Millwright to support our Armament Business Unit located in Elk River, MN.
This position pays $41.52 an hour per union contract
Our Elk River site consists of a serene 3,200 acres, with over 20 active buildings, and numerous projects supporting manufacturing, development, and testing for our Defense Systems Division. Our team works to continuously improve, support, and maintain this unique site through a variety of self-directed daily tasks and larger team projects. This role supports 1st shift operations on a 9/80 schedule.
Role Summary
Move and install complicated machine tools. Install complicated group counter and line shafts. Perform a wide variety of construction and repair work on equipment.
Position Functions and Responsibilities
- Move and install complicated machine tools such as: heavy presses precision machine, boring mills, planners, lathes etc.
- Select or specify motors, shafts, pulleys and belts.
- Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, and plumb bobs.
- Install complicated group counter and line shafts.
- Perform a wide variety of construction and repair work on equipment such as compressors, conveyors and line shafts.
- Use care and judgment planning, moving, rigging, handling equipment with minimum interference to production.
- Diagnose trouble quickly to avoid shut downs.
- Insert shims, adjust tension on nuts and bolts, or position parts, using hand tools and measuring instruments, to set specified clearances between moving and stationary parts.
- Assemble and install equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
- Replace defective parts of machine or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts.
- Dismantle machines, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
- Attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly unit, using hand tools and power tools.
- Move machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
Minimum Requirements
- US Citizenship
- Journeyman Millwright certification
- 3+ years related millwright experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic math and computer skills
- Use of a variety of measuring instruments.
- Metal fabrication experience not required but preferred

Work Environment
- Must use proper PPE approved clothing or devices
- Exposed to varying degrees of dirt, dust, noise, and hot or cold temperatures as work may be performed outdoors.
Physical & Mental Demands
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- Performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
- Considerable amount of time standing and walking, up to 50% of time.
