Job Description

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems (NGDS) – Advanced Weapons is searching for an HPC Hardware/Software Computing Specialist w/ Current Active Top Secret Clearance focused on DevOps.  The successful candidate will collaborate with and support a staff of engineering analysts in multiple areas solving complex problems utilizing HPC Clusters. The working environment includes computer hardware of various design configurations that include CPU, GPU, and FPGA based processing that host computationally intensive commercial and in-house developed applications.  As a member of our Advanced Programs engineering staff, you will use your direct experience in defining computing needs, specifying hardware requirements, supporting procurement by collaboration with computer suppliers, integrating software tools specific to integrated HW and SW solutions and maintain these systems with relevant updates.  You must have experience in air gapped systems and relevant OPSEC requirements and procedures.

Key responsibilities:

  • Architect and customize High Performance Computing  (HPC) applications that require a range of processing solutions to include CPU’s, GPU’s, and FPGA’s

  • Define computing needs, specify hardware requirements, and collaborate with computing system suppliers to implement an HPC capability.

  • A working knowledge of Finite Elements/Difference and boundary value problems that enables creation of new or modification of existing software applications based on requirements supporting HPC environments

  • Develop and implement kernel modifications to maximize runtime performance

  • Operation of LINUX/UNIX OS systems (NFS ,LDAP ,SSH, ansible,  LUSTRE file system, TCP/UDP)

  • Generation of applicable documentation, user manuals and presentations

  • Interfacing with program management and technical staff

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 14 years of related experience with a Bachelor's ; 12 years with a Master's

  • Intel AVX 512 instruction set and CUDA core understanding

  • A background in High Performance Computing using different versions of MPI (MPICH, OpenMPI, Intel MPI)

  • Experience with script / software development for the purpose of automating test and system configuration

  • Experience in software engineering with C/C++ in a Linux environment (Make, GNU)

  • Experience with InfiniBand, Myrinet, 10Gb backplanes

  • Experience developing automated tests for acceptance, functional, system and regression testing 

  • Knowledge of programming and using MPI to solve parallel processing applications

  • Working knowledge of job schedulers ( PBS, slurm, etc)

  • Active Top Secret Clearance with a re-investigation date in the last 6 years.

  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in software development on a real time operating system

  • Experience using and/or setting up a DevSecOps pipeline

  • Working knowledge of CAD programs

  • Working knowledge of JSIG

  • Familiarity with common source control tools (git, Mercurial, etc.) and automated build system workflows (Jenkins, Go, etc.)

  • Knowledge of 3D modeling

Salary Range: 141400 - 212200

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
