Northrop Grumman Defense Systems in is currently seeking a Principal / Sr. Principal Operational Analysis AFSIM / Suppressor / BRAWLER Modeling & Simulation Engineer with a current/active clearance to join our team to work on Advanced Programs.

In this role, the selected candidate will:

  • Perform operational analysis, mission effectiveness analysis, and optimization on conceptual and developmental phase advanced weapons initiatives.

  • Model operational environments, perform trade studies via AFSIM, Suppressor, BRAWLER, and other computer simulations and recommend alternative architectures.

  • Advise other engineers that are simulating real-time operations and developing software that simulates behavior of systems.

  • Work with other engineers and analysts to develop new and/or integrate existing system simulation frameworks, performance models and algorithms, threat models and command and control models.

  • Develop integrate and use advanced graphical user interfaces and visualization tools.

This role includes, but is not limited to, the following activities:

  • Perform modeling, simulation, and analysis tasks assessing system survivability, system effectiveness, and overall system performance in campaign / engagement / mission-level scenarios.

  • Perform trade studies and simulation analyses with the objective of enhancing and optimizing system performance capabilities.

  • Develop performance models, system tactics, algorithms, threat models, and command and control models for new and existing system simulation frameworks.

Some relocation assistance, while not guaranteed, may be available. This position can be located in Tucson, AZ or Northridge, CA. Relocation assistance will only be available to those willing and able to work in Northridge. No relocation assistance will be available for Tucson, AZ

This position may be filled at as a Principal (T03) level or Sr. Principal (T04) level.  Basic qualifications for each level are listed below.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Modeling and Simulation Engineer (T03) are:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Physics AND 5+ years modeling, simulation, and analysis of Aerospace Systems, Systems Analysis, and Design, OR

  • MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Physics AND 3+ years modeling, simulation, and analysis of Aerospace Systems, Systems Analysis, and Design

  • Current/active U.S Government issued DoD Secret Clearance; clearance must have been issued/adjudicated in the past five (5) years

Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Modeling and Simulation Engineer (T04) are:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Physics AND 9+ years modeling, simulation, and analysis of Aerospace Systems, Systems Analysis, and Design, OR

  • MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Physics AND 7+ years modeling, simulation, and analysis of Aerospace Systems, Systems Analysis, and Design, OR

  • PhD. Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Physics AND 4+ years modeling, simulation, and analysis of Aerospace Systems, Systems Analysis, and Design

  • Current/active U.S Government issued DoD Secret Clearance; clearance must have been issued/adjudicated in the past five (5) years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Physics

  • Knowledge of C++, MATLAB

  • Knowledge of the AFSIM and/or Suppressor and/or BRAWLER military operations, strategy and tactics simulation frameworks

  • Knowledge of RF threat modeling


Salary Range: 87600 - 152200
Salary Range 2: 108600 - 188600

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
