Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Staff GNC Engineer (Tracking Specialist) in Northridge CA.  Relocation assistance, while not guaranteed, may be available.

Job Summary

Use broad knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, control, and estimation theory to solve complex aerospace engineering problems.  Contribute to development of new knowledge, concepts, products, and innovative solutions.  Interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate technical assignments for aerospace engineering activities.  Plan, organize and supervise the work of a team of engineers and technicians.  Evaluate progress and results obtained.  Recommend major changes to achieve objectives.

Job Responsibilities

  • Flow down top-level requirement to Guidance, Navigation, and Target Tracking.  Plan and direct all algorithm design and development.
  • Collaborate in navigation sensors and targeting sensors selection based on top-level requirement flow-down and 6+ degrees of freedom simulation results.
  • Collaborate flight vehicle system development.  Leverage multi-disciplinary design, optimization, and analysis processes, tools, and efforts.
  • Attend and present at various engineering design reviews, test readiness reviews, and flight readiness reviews.

Required Education and Experience

  • BS in Engineering & 14 years of relevant experience; or Master’s in Engineering & 12 years of relevant experience; or PhD in Engineering & 9 years of relevant experience
  • Active DOD Secret Security Clearance
  • Demonstrate capability in the following areas:
    • Design Guidance algorithm: Guidance Law, Trajectory Optimization, Flight Vehicle Autonomy; Design Navigation algorithm: Initial Alignment, Strapdown Propagation, INS filter, Multi-Sensor Data Fusion; Design Tracking algorithm: Angle Only Tracking, Maneuvering Target Tracking, Multi-Target Tracking, Track File Manager.
    • Define vehicle dynamics modeling in multiple degrees of freedom simulation architecture; Define navigation sensor and targeting sensor modeling based on hardware specification; Define target dynamics modeling.  Plan and direct modeling design and development effort.
    • Verify system performance from hardware-in-the-loop simulation results, ground tests, captive carry flight tests, and live fire flight tests.
    • Collaborate in flight vehicle system development.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Masters or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Experience in tactical missile design
  • Working knowledge of Multi-Disciplined Analysis and Optimization
  • Understanding of
    • Missile guidance, navigation, control and targeting
    • Configuration management
    • Software development process

Salary Range: $156,000 USD - $234,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
