The Material and Processes Engineering candidate will be working with materials and processes dealing with hardware used in next-generation weapon systems. They will be assisting in the development of designs on production and conceptual programs.

Roles and Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Travelling nationally to other facilities or suppliers to support or execute program tasks as required.

  • Visiting subcontractors to explore new material processing methods or to solve material processing issues.

  • Authoring, editing, reviewing, and facilitating the release of controlled technical specifications.

  • Authoring, editing, reviewing, and facilitating the release of formal or technical reports.

  • Assisting in material analysis projects such as corrosion testing, qualification testing, and the derivation of material allowables based on test data.

  • Fabricating and preparing test specimens.

  • Resolving material and process issues on existing production programs.

  • Reviewing specifications and drawings to ensure that work products will meet the requirements of their intended environments.

  • Working independently or as part of a team to perform and report Root Cause/Correct Action (RCCA) investigations.

  • Exploring new materials or processing/application methods to reduce cost, reduce lead time, or increase quality.

  • Researching structural materials, coatings, adhesives, sealants, and lubricants to optimize their use in airframes.

  • Up to 20% travel

Basic Qualifications:

  • Current/active Secret Clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials, Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering

  • 2 years’ experience in related material and processes engineering fields

  • Ability to obtain Special Program Access as required

  • The candidate must be able to accommodate short-notice, emergent travel needs.

  • Ability to lift at least 30 lbs. of weight independently

  • Demonstrated technical writing skills

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel® and Word® programs

  • Familiarity with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) test standards and specifications

  • Hands-on experience working with metals, nonmetals, composites, coatings, adhesives, sealants, or lubricants

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current/active Secret Clearance

  • Experience working in the Aerospace or Defense Industries

  • Experience working through a qualification project

  • Familiar with Military Specifications (MS), Aerospace Specifications (AS), Aerospace Material Specifications (AMS), and National Aerospace Standard (NAS) specifications.

  • Familiar with DoD/Federal specifications

  • Familiar with ANSI specifications

  • Familiar with ISO specifications

Salary Range: $74,900 USD - $112,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
